"Don't tell me that you love me, cause I won't love back

Don't tell me that you need me, cause I don't need that

Don't tell me that you want me, cause I'm on my own

So when we finish touching, I'm all alone"

"Oh, please God no," I'm walking in the halls with my friend Jonah, when I spot my ex. "He's with that bitch that he cheated on me with! I can't believe that,"

We walk past them and head to our lockers. "You deserved better than that man whore" Jonah says grabbing his books. Jonah has always been there for me. I really don't deserve him. The bell rings overhead.

"We better go before we're late for Ms. Poff's class, she'll probably throw a marker at you again," I say as we head to class.

Jonah POV

To say that I liked my best friend is an understatement. She's  amazing. When she was dating that asshole, I finally realized that I love her. When he cheated on her, she closed herself out. Didn't want anyone's love. Which was hard for me, because that's all I wanted to do.

I wanted to show her that she was the most important person in the world to me. I wanted to shower her in love, and show her how much she means to me.

But she didn't want that.

And I had to respect that.

"Hey, there's gonna be a party at Corbyn's house tonight, come with me?" She asks me. "Of course! I wouldn't miss it."

I pull into her driveway and walk into her house. Her parents are cool with me always being over. I knock on her door, just because I don't know if she's changing or not.

"Come in!" I hear her yell. She's on her bed in sweats and a messy bun. She looked cute, but it's not exactly High School Party attire. "Girl! Are you ready? Cause I'm not taking you anywhere dressed like that,"

She laughs and goes into her closet and comes out looking better than ever.

"Damn! You look good!" I say to her. I pretend to faint to add a dramatic effect. "Oh shut up, let's go!" She grabs her phone and we head out.

"Mom! Dad! I'm going out! I have my phone and my keys!" She tells before heading out the door.

Y/n POV

We get into the party, and immediately Jonah starts drinking. I don't know how, but he ended up with a cup in his hand within the first two minutes of being there. Throughout the night he had finished cup after cup, still maintaining a mostly sober personality.

Then they showed up. There she is, up against him. Their lips pressed together as his hands get tangled in her hair. I want to cry right there. But then the voice on an angel appeared. "Y/n! Wanna drink?" Daniel yells from across the kitchen. I look over at my ex before making my decision.

"Fuck it, yeah!" I say back. There's a red solo cup in my hand filled with a brown liquid that smells terrible. I chug the entire thing and my throat immediately starts to burn. But I like it. I slam the cup on the counter and everyone around cheers.

One drink later and I can already feel the alcohol kicking in. "Jonah! Jonah! Jonah!" I hear from the other room. I decide to go investigate. When I get in, Jonah is standing on a chair, chugging a can of beer from a keyhole slit. He finishes and throws the cab to the ground, cheers explode from all around.

He jumps off of the chair and onto the table in front of him, and one of the legs collapsed. "Jonah!" I rush over to him, as two boys help him up. They drag him upstairs to a spare bedroom, and I go in there with him.

"That was fun!" Jonah says, slurring his words. "Jonah, you broke a table!"

"No I didn't! It looks fucking amazing!" I roll my eyes at his answer.

"You know what else looks fucking amazing? You." Jonah says. He goes in for a kiss and I give in.

The kiss gets more and more heated. Jonah pulls me onto his lap and runs his fingers through my hair. His tongue slips into my mouth and I moan a bit into the kiss. His hands start to roam around my body until finally settling on my waist. We break apart for air. Jonah looks into my eyes and says the words that change my life forever.

"I love you y/n"

I get off his lap. "Jonah, you're drunk. You don't mean that."

"I'm sober! When we kissed it made me sober again! And I do love you!" He tells me.

"I don't believe you Jonah."

He gets up and does some on the tests that police give you. He fails miserably. I roll my eyes at him. "Can I stay at your house tonight? Neither of us can drive home." I ask.

He nods his head and we walk to his house down the street. When we get to his house, we go up to his room and he tosses me some of his shorts and one of his hoodies. This isn't the first time we've shared a bed. We normally just face away from each other to make it less awkward. We're pretty tired so we fall asleep quickly.

Timeskip

The next morning, I wake up in his arms. And then a pounding headache attacks me. I try to wiggle out of his arms to get some water, but his grip is too strong. I poke him to try and wake him up. "Jonah! Wake up!" His eyes open and he sits up, letting go of me. His reaction shows that his hangover has arrived.

We make our way downstairs to make ourselves breakfast. We both have cereal, and take an aspirin for our hangovers. "We were wasted last night!" Jonah laughs.

"You're telling me? Jonah, you broke a table!" I joke.

"Is that why my shoulder hurts?" I giggle at his remark. "I think we made out too." He says. I freeze. "Y-you remember that?"

"Yeah. Midway I kinda gained back sobriety." I'm silent.

"So you remember what you said?" I ask.

"Yeah, I said I loved you. And I do. How could I not? You're amazing!"

I get up and pace back and forth, stressing. Jonah just confessed. "I'm sorry Jonah, I don't love anyone. I can't. He made sure of that. So please don't tell me that you love me, or that you need me, or that you want me, because I'm alone. And that's all that I need to be. Ok?"

He stands up in front of me. "I know that you're still hurt over him. But you don't have to be alone. I can show you what love really is. Because I know for a fact that he didn't love you the way that you deserve. So please give me a chance."

I don't know what to say. The tears start to flood down my face. I hide my face in his chest as he wraps his arms around me, holding me in his embrace.

Once I calm down, I mumble "ok" into his chest. "What was that?"

I speak a bit louder. "Ok"
