“They do it on purpose!” Ted called to Janice. 

“What? Who do?”

“Bloody cables! They tangle themselves up. I swear they are intelligent!”

He was head down, arse up, squeezed between the new TV and the wall.

“They’ll be the bloody death of me.”  He moaned, cricking his neck and losing his glasses. Stretching for the very last HDMI cable he became stuck fast. With rising panic he felt something smooth drop onto the back of his neck. Suddenly and silently the tangle of cables whipped and unravelled like snakes all around him. Then sliding and constricting around his throat, they choked the life out of him.

“Is it working yet?” Janice called.

Silence. She found him on his back, mouth and eyes wide open, the cables, wires and plugs coiled neatly, beside him.

“Oh my God, his heart’s packed up. ” She muttered. “Still. he’s tidied those bloody cables at last.”
