Ginny had been having more arguments with Harry recently, about the most ridiculous things as well: fails to cast a charm - argument, toast burnt - argument, person dies - argument; but on top of that, she had been telling his friends, in-laws and even their children, that they had been having relationship problems. Naturally Rita Skeeta obtained this information snd ran with it so now everyone he knew (and didn't know) hated him. Harry suspected Ginny was having an affair so he hatched a plot to rectify his life.
