I hate basements. Never go in them. They're just a big hole in the ground surrounded by concrete with only one way out. Plus, when I was little, my mom called me to come down and help with the laundry. I reluctantly descended into dark, cold, damp cavern. Walked the length of the house back to the laundry room and went inside. Mom never turned around. Just kept folding clothes. Didn't say anything. I grabbed a stack of clean shirts and quickly walked back to the stairs. I looked up and there was my mom at the top asking me, "why are you down there, honey?... and why are you carrying those dirty clothes? Take them back..."
