I was ecstatic, I got accepted into Sapienza University. I always wanted to go to Rome as a child and now I'm here with a full scholarship.
When the letter first came I immediately called my friend Belinda, she wanted to come with me but she had to stay back in the US to help her mom. Mrs. Mercier had been ill since I met her, everyone knew she didn't have much time left. That's why Monday decided to stay behind. Although Belinda was sad that I was leaving she was proud that my wish finally came true. I met Belinda in first grade after she moved to Florida from Haiti, my parents had been teaching me French so my teacher made me her guide. At first I was annoyed but then we got to one another better and we got really close. Anyway I was leaving for Italy in a week so I tried to spend as much time with Belinda and her mom before I left or before Belinda's mom died. She was like a second mother to me, she was kind although strict which is what made me love her.

I was flying out today and it was probably one of the happiest and saddest moments of my life rolled in one.
