Astrid Thornton was not supposed to be alive.

She lived on stolen time, her footsteps walking the line between life and death. Her breaths couldn't cause a cold glass to condensate, no air and moisture coming from her mouth. When you are blasted with unknown energy, that tends to happen to a person.

Astrid Thornton was a lonely girl in a big world, pulled and buffeted by SHIELD, by otherworldly forces, by gods and men who pretend to be them. She was a young girl, living a life that wasn't hers, but she would cling to it all that she could.

Peter Parker was a boy with secrets clinging to his every move. Always rushing off, always in places he wasn't supposed to be, and never right where Astrid looked. He was a puzzle, a mystery, dashing off the minute he could to do god knows what.

Astrid, in all her idle and busy days, loved a mystery. Something to distract her mind, something to pull her attention from the growing blue energy that she felt within her.

Astrid Thornton needed a distraction, and Peter Parker seemed like the perfect opportunity.
