Sometimes, you know exactly what you're going to get out of a movie just by looking at who the lead actor is.Vin Diesel's movies, for instance, are simple – whether it's the Fast And Furious, XxX, Riddick franchises, or even The Pacifier, you know you'll at least get some good, mindless, action-packed fun out of the 90 minutes or so in the cinema. You may not be able to fathom what he is mumbling about half the time, but hey, that guy can throw a punch, and he never seems to get hurt. At all. With Bloodshot, Diesel pretty much sticks to the formula. The over-the-top action sequences are there, and so are all the bone-crushing stunts, but this time, at least he has a reason for his invulnerability: superpowers!Diesel plays US Marine hot shot Ray Garrison, who is kidnapped and murdered along with his wife after a mission. Or so it seems.Story-wise, this is pretty standard fare, especially for a Vin Diesel movie. If you've read the comic books by Valiant Comics, you'll notice that this isn't exactly a direct adaptation of the series. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that the main character is Bloodshot, this could have been any other generic Vin Diesel action movie. The supporting characters aren't too memorable either – Gonzalez is the token female character who gets one scene to show off what she can do, while Pearce seems to be rehashing his role from Iron Man 3. The one saving grace from the cast (aside from Diesel) is Lamorne Morris' hacker Wigans, who at least manages to inject some humor into an otherwise predictable and dour script.Still, credit to director David S.F. Wilson for pulling off a decent job with the somewhat limited script, particularly in the way the movie starts out as a seemingly straightforward revenge flick only to take a surprising turn halfway through. If you like watching Vin Diesel doing his thing, or just mindless action movies in general, then this is the movie for you. Bloodshoot is a 2020 American superhero film based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name. It is intended to be the first installment in a series of films set within a Valiant Comics shared cinematic universe. Directed by David S. F. Wilson (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer and a story by Wadlow, the film stars Vin Diesel, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, and Guy Pearce. It follows a marine who was killed-in-action, only to be brought back to life with superpowers by an organization that wants to use him as a weapon.Ray is later resurrected by Rising Spirit Tech, a company that specializes in developing cybernetic enhancements for disabled US military personnel. The company's CEO Dr Emil Harting tells Ray that he is the first successful candidate that they have resurrected using a special nanite technology. Ray is also introduced to Dr Harting's other patients including former US Navy diver Katie ("KT"), whom he strikes a romantic friendship with, and former soldiers Jimmy Dalton and Tibbs, whom he gets on poorly with. After experiencing "flashbacks" of Martin and Gina, Ray escapes Rising Spirit's laboratory in Kuala Lumpur and pursues Martin, seeking to avenge Gina's death. Using the nanites to slice into computer databases, Ray tracks down Martin to Budapest. After trapping his convoy in a tunnel, Ray kills Martin's bodyguards before executing the mercenary. Later, he is recovered by Katie, Jimmy and Tibbs, who bring him back to Rising Spirit for reprogramming. In truth, Harting created a false memory of Gina's death as part of a plot to eliminate rivals in Rising Spirit including Martin and Nick Baris. After his memories are wiped and reprogrammed, Ray is sent to kill Nick in East Sussex. Though Ray manages to kill Nick and his bodyguards, Nick has forced the computer programmer Wilfred Wigans to build an EMP bomb, which Nick ignites prior to his death. This incapacitates Ray and severs communications with Rising Spirit. After "resurrecting" Ray, Wigans reveals that Rising Spirit planted false memories to turn him into a killing machine. Ray also discovers Gina is alive but had left him five years ago and has started a family in Westminster.Growing disillusioned with Dr Harting's exploitation of Ray, Katie seeks Wigans' help in taking him down. Meanwhile, Ray is recaptured by Jimmy and Tibbs following a pursuit. He is brought back to Rising Spirit's laboratory for reprogramming but escapes with the help of Katie and Wigans, who sabotage the reprogramming process and Rising Spirit's computers. Breaking free, Ray fights with Jimmy and Tibbs, who are killed. Ray also confronts Dr Harting, who manages to drain the nanites but is killed when Ray lets of a bomb. Ray is rebuilt by Wigans and Katie. The three then embark on a caravan journey, seeking a new life
