Briarlight lay in her nest wheezing and weak. She'd been battling this belly sickness for a while now, and everyone was terrified for her. She however, had hope. The hope that had given her her warrior name. The hope that had kept her alive since her injury.

Jayfeather hadn't left her side, except to get herbs for her. He wasn't giving up, even after Leafpool had told him that it was in Starclan's paws. "If it's left to StarClan, then they'll take her for sure." Jayfeather had snapped at his mother, before he turned back to Briarlight.

Briarlight watched Jayfeather. She wished they could be alone for just a few moments, but Alderheart walked in at that moment. She kept her thoughts to herself. One day I will tell him. One day. She told herself silently.
