I don't belong in your closet.
I don't belong in your shame.
I don't belong in your self-doubt.
I don't belong to you.
You may think that I belong to you,
and that I am your property.
I AM YOUR CHILD!

You can't flip a switch and change who I am.
You can't program me to fit your needs.
You can't pull at my strings to act the way you want.
I AM A HUMAN BEING!!

Believe me when I say that I was afraid to speak.
I was afraid to speak to the one who gave me life.
I was afraid that from the moment this charade came to an end.
I would find myself in the middle of the street,
either begging or selling my body for some food.
Believe me when I say, "I'm grateful."
I am grateful for the love you have shown me.
I am grateful for all the work you put,
to keep me from making a wrong decision.
That is why I know how to recognize my self-worth.

That is why I can say that I am proud to be me.
Even when you constantly put me down about my weight.
Even when you can't see beyond your narrow point of view.
Even when you self proclaim yourself a child of God,
and seconds later, you turn your face and combust like a moth in flames.

But I can't wait for you any longer.
You asked me for time, and I gave it to you.
You asked me for patience, and I gave it to you
You asked me to understand you, and I tried my best.
I've tried to stay inside this hourglass,
filled by your insecurities and by the world's stupidity.
I can't wait for you to open your eyes.
I can't wait for you to knock down these walls,
build upon ignorance and hate.
If you can't change, I won't hate you.
I'll find my way in this world.
I'll build my new home.
I'll survive all my trials.
Because deep inside, I know I'm never alone.
