Itwas a dark and stormy night. Lightining flashed and thunder roared asa heavy rain fell. Nothing could be heard in the Knight house, exceptfor the soft snores of the twins in their beds and the muffled soundof the young Jennifer Knight pacing the upstairs hall, her infantdaughter Katie asleep in her arms. The 24-year-old couldn't help butfeel anxious, a million fears running through her mind. As the witchmate to the Alpha of North America's largest and most powerfulwerewolf pack, the ginger headed woman knew enough of fear to worryabout the continued safety of her three half-blood children, especially the twins, Kendall and Andrew. As Kent's eldest sons, theywould one day take over the responsibilty of protecting and leadingthe pack, but already there were those who viciously rejected thembecause of their witch blood.
Gentlystroking the sleeping infant's dark locks, Jennifer walked up to theboys' bedroom door and peeked inside. The room was neater than onewould expect from two rowdy, recently turned 5 year old boys, withtwo twin beds along the north wall and matching dressers along thesouth wall. The hall light threw a dim golden rectangle over the feetof the beds, providing just enough light for Jennifer to see by.Kendall's bed was empty, the blankets messily tossed aside. Pursingher lips together, the ginger headed woman looked over at his twin'sbed, none to surprised to find the two snuggled up together, Andrew'sarms wrapped protectively around his brother. Quietly walking up tothe bed, Jennifer used her free hand to pull the colorful quilt up tothe boys' chins, before gently stroking their silky hair. Like theirpersonalities, their hair and eye colors were distinctly different.Kendall was a fair golden blonde with emerald green eyes and hisfather's dimples, while Andrew was a pale boy with raven black hairand brilliant blue eyes. "Good night, my little princes."Jennifer whispered, smiling as she listened to their soft snores.Satisfied that everything was as it should be, the young motherslipped quietly out of the room, closing the door behind her.
From themoment Kendall's eyes opened, the small boy knew something was amiss, the distinct feeling of fearful anticipation and dread washing overhim. Nothing could be heard except the roar of the storm outside,Andrew's breathing above his head, and his own little heart poundingin his chest. The boy slowly sat up, carefully unwrapping hisbrother's arm from around him. He listened again, hearing nothingunusual except for a soft tapping on the window. Quietly andcarefully crawling out of bed so as not to disturb Andrew, Kendallcrept over to the window and threw back the curtains, sighing when hesaw the tree tapping the glass with each sway of it's storm tossedbranches. The blonde boy was disappointed it wasn't something unusualor somewhat adveturous. He moved to shut the curtain, freezing whenhe spotted a man standing on the sidewalk across the street. Heseemed ignorant of the rain pouring down around him, his faceshielded from view by the wide brim of his hat. An uneasy feelingsettled in the pit of Kendall's stomach as he quickly shut thecurtains and sprinted back to his own bed. The storm still raged onoutside as the boy snuggled down into his own bed, yanking the coversup over his head, his green eyes on the window. He didn't know whothe man was or why he was standing in the rain, but he looked enoughlike the villians from his and Andrew's Saturday morning cartoonsthat Kendall didn't trust him. The boy, still uneasy, eventuallydrifted off into a fitful sleep, unaware that his life would soonchange forever.

BOOM!
Kendall andAndrew bolted upright in their beds, eyes wide with terror as theirmother's scream echoed through the house. Heavy footsteps trambledall over the downstairs, before a lighter, more determined step cameup the stairs and down the fall, a dark shadow blocking the lightunder the door as the foot falls stopped in front of their door.Kendall's heart pounded in his chest as he glanced over at hisbrother, who stared back at him with blue eyes wide, as a heavysilnce settled over the dark room. The suspense was suffocating, theanxiety building up in the two boys unnerving as they waited, silently hoping and praying that whoever it was would turn away andleave. Just when they thought whoever it was had gone, the door wasthrown open, revealing the man from across the street. His face washidden in the shadows, his glowing crimson eyes peering from beneaththe brim of his hat as his lips pulled back into an evil-lookinggrin, revealing his sharp fangs. "Hello boys." The mansaid, his voice cheery yet dangerous at the same time.
Kendallswallowed hard, shaking with fear while Andrew seemed decidedlycollected, his icy gaze never leaving the intruder. His smirk onlygrew as he walked into the room, slowly removing a syringe of darkreddish-brown liquid as he approached the blonde boy's bed. Kendall'seyes grew, a small squeak of terror leaving his lips as he beheld thesharp needle heading his way. He screamed as the man attacked, theneedle aimed straight for the boy's neck. An inhuman screetch camefrom Andrew's bed as the raven-haired boy launched himself at hisbrother's attacker, his body changing mid-air into that of a largegrey wolf cub. The man screamed as the young wolf sank his teeth intohis shoulder, his needle-like claws raking through the flesh. Kendalldodged the man's hand, narrowly escaping the needle. Roaring withanger, the intruder grabbed onto Andrew and threw him against thewall, shattering the mirror. The small cub fell limply to the floor, unconcious and bleeding. Kendall gasped, scrambling off the bed andrunning to his brother's side.
"Drew, wake up!" he sobbed, clutching the wolf's fur tightly as heshook him, but the cub didn't respond. Behind him, the man, seethingwith rage, spat blood out, his crimson eyes dancing as he approachedthe twins. He could see now which of the twins had the power and whowould become Alpha. He only needed to take one, instead of wastinghis time and effort on both. "Forget the blonde." Hegrowled, knocking Kendall back with a single swipe of his hand. "I'lltake the Alpha." With that, he scooped up the unconcious cub andleapt out the window. "Drew!" Kendall screamed, scramblingto his feet and running over to the window, but it was too late. Theman had already disappeared into the night, taking Andrew with him.Kendall sobbed, running out of the room and downstairs, heartdropping when he saw what awaited him at the base of the steps.
His mothersobbed, her head lying on the still body of a great salt-and-pepperwolf. Blood pooled on the floor beneath them. "Mommy!"Kendall cried, rushing over to his parents. Jennifer lifted her head, wrapping her arms around the boy and holding him close. "He tookDrew, Mommy. Why did he take my brother?" Kendall sobbed, burying his face into his mother's shirt, turning to look at thewolf. "Daddy?" He asked, his voice pleading. "He'sgone, Kenny." Jennifer's voice cracked as she spoke, tearsstreaming down her face. She held her remaining son close, slowlyrocking back and forth as the two cried, stroking his blonde hair. She rested the hand on his head, kissing his temple gently beforewhispering an incantation, her hand glowing a bright blue as she castone of her strongest spells in an attempt to protect him. Nobodywould ever accept a half-wolf, half-witch, so, without him even beingaware of it, Jennifer locked everything away, his witch, his wolf, even his memories. She would do the same to Katie and move them bothaway to where nobody would ever harm them or take them away everagain.
