An Ode To Mums

My teacher asked me to write a poem about mums for Mother's Day.
Oh, gee, what do I put?
It's so hard to pinpoint all the different things mums are good at. Well, here it goes.....

The best thing about mums is that they are capable.
They would throw themselves under a train for you.
No, that sounds too dramatic, how about,
They make you food and put it on the table.

'At least it rhymes,' I think to myself. Hang on, inspiration!
They're always thinking of you, no matter how busy they are,
They drive you everywhere in their car,
Oh no, I've got writer's block.

(THREE MINUTES LATER)

'See? I told you it'd be hard!' I think to myself.
Okay, okay, let's try something new.
They're always willing to help you.
Um, goodness, I have absolutely no idea!

'This is really difficult,' I tell myself.
I've got to come out straight.
I can' think of anything! Wait a second! What about,
Mums are really great.

That sounds so stupid! I really don't know what to write!
Oh no, the teacher's looking at my work strangely,
She's reading it, she says, "Lexie?"
"Your writing is very warped and twisted, it doesn't fit properly, and it doesn't rhyme!"

So this is it, my Mother's Day poem,
I hope that you've enjoyed it,
It took me an absolute age,
But I think I've finally got it.

Mums are hard to put into words,
Their amazing abilities and powers,
They'd give up days on end for you,
And give you all their hours.

They make you lunch and dinner,
A hearty breakfast too,
To sum up all my hard work,
Just let me say,

I LOVE YOU.
Happy Mother's Day
