ANGELICA ZHARKOVA HAD GUILT. She had guilt because she broke a girl's heart when they were 16 years old. She had guilt because she had regret, because she would always hear the broken sobs of the girl she loved as she turned her back and walked out the door that awful summer night in 1989. And guilt was dangerous, she learned that. Guilt held too much power and power always backfired on whoever had it.

SHE GOT MIXED UP IN SOME BAD STUFF. She knew it was her own fault, really. She just couldn't standby. "Let it go. It's been 15 years," they would say, but 15 years wasn't nearly long enough for the love to dissipate. Angelica was sure it never would. So when the woman she loved went missing on "business" for her family, Angelica took the risk and that came with consequences. Consequences that made Angelica's blood boil, but she took it. She took it because she had to. Because she failed the first time and she wouldn't fail again.
