"I have a baby sister living here," Keaton said, arms crossed over his chest, fighting off a smile as he watched Mika clamber down from the front of his van. "You could've woken her.

"Did I?"

"No. She's out."

"All by herself?"

"With my parents, you ninny."

"I was going to say, she's quite young to be tromping around town alone." Slamming the door shut, Mika beamed down at him. His trousers were new, and as disgustingly bright as usual. "You been alright?" That made Keaton laugh, although not pleasantly, and the smile he was receiving turned a little sad. "Okay, always a good sign. Can I come in?"

For a second, the simple request made Keaton freeze up as he considered it. Instantly, half of him wanted to run, hide, go somewhere dark and wait for everything to stop, but he beat it down for now, scolding himself for feeling afraid.

This was Mika. He'd lobbed a squeaky dog toy at Percival whilst Keaton was throwing up on the floor, then helped get him back to the hotel safely. He'd agreed to drive him back home in the middle of the night without any argument. He'd stuck around after the library had been wrecked by whatever had happened and helped to clean up. Keaton shouldn't be scared of him. He wouldn't be scared of him, and that was final.
