I was fairly new to the area as I had just moved in to my new house over the summer. We used to live in Connecticut, which isn't far from New Jersey. The only reason we moved here is because of my dads business and we figured it'd be easier for all of us if we moved instead of having my dad away for work during weekends. We had sold our house in Connecticut so yeah, it was official. I had to leave the place I called home, forever. Well to be honest, I have been moving around my whole life. We used to move houses every 2-3 years so I was used to it.

We said our goodbyes to our neighbour's and friends and drove off. We had a long car ride ahead of us so I packed a few snacks. I'm an only child, so it gets boring especially during long car rides. I had my music playing in the car and my windows were rolled down. My dog was on the other end, looking out the window. Nothing like a summer breeze. I guess I dozed off and didn't notice my mom calling.

You- "Hey why'd you turn off the music" I said while whining. (i was vibing ok)
Mom- "I called your name so many times but you wouldn't listen. You feeling okay?". She seemed genuinely worried.
You- "Oh sorry. I was just thinking about how it would be like in New Jersey. I mean for dad it's gonna be easier but I'm going to have start all over again"
Mom- "I know, honey. But remember, no matter what happens at school or outside the house, when you come home, everything is going to be the same. We are never going to change, ok?". She reached out her hand and patted my knees lightly to let me know that everything was going to be alright.

And I knew that. My family and I have always had a strong bond. Maybe because it was just the three of us (and my dog) so we were forced to talk to each other, but we're always laughing and just having fun. But also, because I didn't have any siblings, I prioritized my friends a lot, which made moving very difficult for me.

[A few hours later]
My mom and I fell asleep and my dad woke us up when we arrived at our house. It was a nice neighbourhood, and the houses were big, well at least bigger than our last one. I stretched my arms and legs out and let out a big yawn. I put the leash on my dogs collar and got out of the car. He seemed excited to go in so I asked for the keys and headed inside.

You- "WOAH

You- "WOAH. It's even better on the inside." I said as my voice echoed through the roof.
