Ice Heart

And when the final straw finally
Broke in half
She sighed, a heavy sigh as the,
Last little bit of her heart
Iced over and the
Chains locked tight
With a loud clink around it.

For her heart had finally had enough
Enough loving with all she had
& getting pain in return
Enough helping and caring with all she had, but
Finding herself alone when she needed help most

And so, to protect herself
From any more pain
Her heart did what it thought best,
Ice used as the barrier,
Chains locked tight around as the guard
With her heart, finally safe
Hidden away from harm

She fell to her knees,
And wept
She had been strong
For far too long and
Knowing she had nothing,
Left to give.
For she had given,
Everything she had for so long.
And so, she just wept
