Five decades after the great radiation war, four turtles were born in New York City. Scattered and hidden around the city were test tubes containing a new form of radiation developed during the war, known as "Mutagen" because of its deoxyribonucleic...
All four mutant turtles sat on their needs in front of their frail rat-man master, whom called himself Splinter, an alias to cover his name, Hamato Saki.
"Children, it has come time for you to explore the world that lies above our sewers, but first, as my last gift to you, allow me to assign you coloured masks as identifiers. What say you?"
"Yes, master!" called all four turtles.
"Be it so."
The rat removed four different-coloured masks from his pocket and handed them out to each of the turtles.
Leonardo received blue. This stood for his stability, serenity, and Calm demeanour. Donatello received purple. This stood for his passion, dignity, and mysterious demeanour.
Raphael received red. This stood for courage, power, and his angry demeanour. Last but not least, Michaelangelo received orange. This stood for energy, excitement, and his cheery demeanour.
After each of them slipped on their masks, they took a bow to their master. A sincere, formal one.
"You may now explore the city, but before you go, let me set ground rules. Do not interact with the humans. Remain on the rooftops during the day, unless entering the sewer, and always mate sure you aren't followed before returning. You may now go."
After the speech, each of the turtles rushed to the ladder and climbed up into the sewer lines. They ran through and eventually reached the lid.

"So, what do you think we'll find out there? I can't remember the last time I roamed around the surface! It's so fun thinking about the kinds of people we'll meet!"

"Slow down there, Michaelangelo! Recollect what master Splinter told us? He specifically told us not to interact with them," Leonardo reassured.
