The desert is Khamisi's only home, yet the decades of no rain have driven all signs of life from the desert. When the nomad finally resigns herself a fate of scrap jobs and begging, she encounters her way out: Nikias. Khamisi is hired by the wealthy foreigner to guide him through the desert in search of a rumored treasure. Nikias is kind, gentle, and curious, but something is amiss. He doesn't sleep. Instead he speaks as if in conversation with the sky. Even more bizarre are the missing belongings, symbols sewn on her clothes, bruises on her body. It doesn't take long to uncover his little treasure and with it, his secret. Now Khamisi is trapped between two choices: die in that cave or join Nikias' sinister plan. The clock has been set; the weathers shifting with whispers of an illegitimate throne and smokes of war. Khamisi must play Nikias' game if she wants to live. But she'll do anything to survive, even if that means destroying everything she's known.
