In a world of nothing but grey, life seems bleak and hopeless... Especially for Alice, a young woman growing up in the 1860's. Raised by an abusive mother and unaffectionate father, and forced to marry a man she doesn't love, not much seems to be working in this girl's uneventful life. Things seem to change for the worse when her best friend and other half, her sunny sister Melody, falls fatally ill, and leaves behind a secret that has been kept in the dark their whole lives; a key to something hidden inside of Alice that she never knew was there.
