When up-and-coming criminal psychologist Maria Sanchez is offered the tedious task of interviewing the world's most prolific serial killer, she jumps on the opportunity. The idea that this man agreed to an interview is astounding enough, but the job falling to her is like a dream. Her goal: gathering information on exactly how many people he murdered throughout his reign of terror. Out of the decade he's been incarcerated, no interrogator has been able to crack him - she's going to have to find a new way of gathering information. Playing into his narcissistic tendencies, Maria decided what approach she would be using. Instead of doing a face-to-face interview, Maria is going to make him keep a journal for her. She asks him to detail his escapades as much as possible. If she knows anything about killers, it's that they love to relive their crimes. Agreeing to spend a month keeping a journal, the killer writes one entry a day to be read by Maria and gathered information from. It is the perfect way to entice him to express himself truthfully. Sided by samples of police reports and Maria's notes, the murderer details his crimes and the inner workings behind his unspeakable actions.
