'Love', that was a concept that Velatus never could understand.
Of course, no one in their family understand such a thing.
'I love you', it was such a sentence uttered every day, filled with hypocrisy and fakeness, sometimes, accompanied by a tight hug or some sharp words. Testing the waters, lightly taking the offense and explore the bottom line, while in the dark, silently finding out and digging out all those disgusting darkness and dirt.
A friendly exchange was but a war, the word 'sibling' meant nothing but 'enemy'.
Rationality, coldness, a scheming mind, along with a body strong enough to withstand poisons, toxins, and attacks, those were the most basic requirements to survive. Of course, everyone in Algor had it, after all, they were all bright stars, full of splendors and talents. Undoubtedly, they were the beloved sons and daughters of heaven, the existence that ordinary people and even renowned geniuses would look up in envy.
What a shame, they shared the last name of 'Algor'.
Over and over, the bloodshed never ended. Generations over generations, brothers pitted against brothers, sisters against sisters, and mothers against mothers. A never ending cycle of destruction and chaos.
Unexpectedly, a boy appeared. With black hair so unlike from their untainted white, clear eyes full of mischief so lively and humane, and... a bright and clean soul shredded in darkness.
It wasn't that he was different from them, no, he was more meticulous. His mask was more perfect. His actions were more ruthless. And his soul had long been accustomed to staying in the dark, just like theirs. He was more perfect than them, even when they didn't share the same blood.
Nonetheless, Velatus had a strange feeling. That very boy so perfect and beastly, seemed to be... unexpectedly warm and soft and... kind?
Ah, 'love' was only a weakness in Algor. It was better to squash such a thing before it truly bloomed.Attribution Creative Commons (CC)
