The Greys are a militant, brutal, and thoroughly merciless Secret Police, working for an oppressive and equally unscrupulous government, who use their Secret Police to enforce cruel laws on minorities, squashing those they consider less than themselves beneath their boots. The Revolutionaries are a fragmented, unpredictable, violent faction of change-makers, with a terrible penchant for fire and bombs - most of them, at least - working for nobody and nothing but what they deem to be the People's Best Interests. They are quite decidedly at war, with a Revolutionary calling himself the Firebomber leading the Revolutionaries' bloody charges in fast paced, explosive, hostage-filled attacks, and a man named Baine leading the Greys, executing 'traitors' on the spot, and dragging his suspects off in the night for a 'questioning' from which nobody returns, guilty or otherwise. - and Casamira is going to be caught in the midst of it all. Only 16, and cursed with freckles, she will find herself coming to know that neither side of this war are anything but human, and with this knowledge she will come to know that neither side could simply be called 'good' or 'bad' out of hand. Casamira will find herself in a world of moral dubiousness, and quickly in a literal Grey Area. And she will have to choose sides.
