Give Me A Sign - Breaking Benjamin

*Warning, Self Harm*

Dead star shine
Light up the sky
I'm all out of breath
My walls are closing in
Days go by
Give me a sign
Come back to the end
The shepherd of the damned

'Why bother living...' I ask myself this question every day. I raised my hood over my head, avoiding everyone's gaze as I walked down the hallway of school. Life was, well, just depressing. I have nothing to live for, so why do I still keep walking down these miserable hallways. There's nothing holding me back, so why not just end it all?

I sighed as I entered my homeroom class. I wonder what torture is planned for today. I silently walked to my seat in the back, trying to avoid everyone. Once I reached my desk I noticed a few notes from bullies, nothing out of the ordinary. They said the usual; Go kill yourself, Ugly Bitch, No one likes you. I once again sighed as I threw away the notes. Why can't this day just end?

I can feel you falling away

There she is. The most beautiful, amazing, girl the world could have graced me with. (Y/N) (L/N). I looked at her from across the classroom. I looked back at my notebook, full of poetry and sketches, some of (Y/N). She is the definition of perfection to the Prussian. 'Why can't others realize that?,' he wondered, thinking of the daily notes she receives from bullies. Oh, how he wanted to beat up the ones that hurt (Y/N), and change their minds about her, but he couldn't. It wasn't that he wasn't physically strong enough, but mentally. He lacked too much self-confidence to even talk to for her.

One day, (Y/N). I'll prove to you that I will be there, always, for you.

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
the scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

The scars on her body. There were too many for her to count. She moved her sleeve to reveal a few of her scars upon her wrist. You felt the pain and sadness wash over you from when you had created the scars. 'I need to leave,' you told yourself. You raised your hand to get the teachers attention.

"Yes, (Y/N)?," The teacher asked once she noticed your raised hand.
"May I go...to the restroom?"
"Of course." The teacher returned to teaching the lesson as you fled from the classroom, bringing a little friend with you. However, not without another student noticing.
Gilen raised his hand, catching the teacher's attention.
"Yes, Gillen?"
"May I also go to the restroom?"
"Yes, you may."
After he left the classroom, he tried to find (Y/N), before she did something the both of them would regret.

Daylight dies
Blackout the sky
Does anyone care?
Is anybody there?
Take this life
Empty inside
I'm already dead
I'll rise to fall again

Tears poured out of your eyes as you sat in the empty restroom. Blood poured out of your wrist; razor clutched tight in your other hand. Pain from not only the cut, but memories, filled through you.

When was the last time you were truly happy? When you didn't wish to die? Before you ever attempted self-harm.

Apparently, those memories had fled your mind since you couldn't think of an event where you were truly happy. How sad and pathetic; my life.
Tears and blood continued to fall to the dirty restroom floor. Your whimpering was all you could hear, but a loud slam of the restroom door interrupted you. The stalls door flew open to show your classmate, Gillen. He looked down at your pathetic form, and his eyes softened immediately. He looked away before pulling up his own sleeves. You gasped at the scars that littered his pale skin.

I can feel you falling away

"You're not alone, (Y/N)." He quietly told you, returning his gaze to your own. He pulled his sleeves down and began to gather toilet paper. He gently grasped your wrist, and began to clean them of the blood. He grabbed the razor, and to your disappointment, threw it into the waste bin.

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
the scars will remain
I'm falling apart
Leave me here forever in the dark

"I don't want you to hurt yourself, (Y/N). You're too perfect to have such flaws scattered upon your skin."

"Perfect? What are you talking about? I'm the farthest thing from perfect."You informed him.

His eyes stared into yours. Emotions you have never seen before danced in his eyes. He cupped your cheek, wiping away your tears.
"Don't say that, it not true. What is true about you is that you are amazing, beautiful, and everything I could ever ask for in a girl, no, woman."

"Well, your idea of a 'woman' is sad. I'm a sorry excuse of a human being. I don't belong here."

Gillen's grip tightened on your wrist and cheek, causing you to flinch at the still painful scars. His gaze hardened, making you feel unconformable. He continued to stare at you until he finally stood straight up, releasing you from his hold.

God help me I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun
God help me I've come undone
Out of the light of the sun

Gillen pulled out a small journal from his pocket and flipped to a page. He looked up at you before looking back at his book. He opened his mouth and began to read aloud a poem.

She writes a list of all the things she hates about herself in just one word.
He writes a list of all the things he loves about her in just one word.
Everything.

"(Y/N), I fucking love you! You are the beautiful butterfly who can't see her own wings. Love is about facing your biggest fears! Face this, and let me love you!" He shouted at the girl with tears in her eyes. No one has ever said that they loved her.

I can feel you falling away

Tears were pouring out both of their eyes. Shakily, you rubbed the tears from your eyes before pulling Gillen into a hug. He stiffened at the surprising contact, but wrapped his arms around you before continuing to let his tears fall. You stroked his long hair to comfort him while he released his pain. The two of you stayed like this for what felt like hours.

No longer the lost
No longer the same
And I can see you starting to break
I'll keep you alive
If you show me the way
Forever - and ever
the scars will remain

"Gillen, why? How could you love someone like me?" you asked shakily.
He raised his head from the crook of your neck to look you straight in the eyes.

"If I could explain to you how amazing you are to me, I would have enough reasons to fill a book. To simplify it, everything. Everything about you amazes me; lures me in; everything about you made me fall in love with you."

He held your tear stained face and leaned into you, slowly pecking your lips. It was quick, but the passion came across. You looked into his loving eyes with your widened eyes. Never, in your entire life, had you experienced love. This moment was surprising, but felt just right.

Give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
there's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood
Just give me a sign
There's something buried in the words
Give me a sign
Your tears are adding to the flood

Tears once again began to pour out of your eyes. It wasn't from sadness, though, but happiness. You pulled Gillen back down into another longer lasting kiss. He seemed just as surprise as you had from your bravery, but leaned in anyways. Your broken heart seemed to beat once again. You felt emotions you never had before, some you couldn't even identify, but knew they were right.

Forever - and ever
The scars will remain

The both of you pulled back at smiled at each other lovingly.
"Let's leave this place, (Y/N)."
"Let's," you happily agreed, grabbing his hand, leaving the restroom. You walked past the classrooms, walking all the way to the school entrance, hand in hand. A smile graced the both of your features as you left the miserable school.

Author's note:Sorry that it's pretty depressing... Also, to anyone out there reading this, I know what self harm feels like, and no one should believe they deserve the scars they create on themselves. If you ever need someone to talk to about this, I'm here. I won't judge, only give advice and listen. Self harm isn't the answer!
