Goodbye Butterfly ✅

The night you flew into my house
I remember being amazed
Mostly black, white, yellow
And on the lower parts a little red
My mother told me who you were
And I recall being unafraid.

I never knew you
Never met you in my life
But there you were
On the wall, along the stairs
And near the door.

I never thought about you
I confused you with another
I called you 'Gong Gong' every day
Not knowing you were 'Ye Ye'.

Did you come to see how tall I was?
Or to see how my chin looked like yours?
Did you really come because I'd been good
Or just to see if I was of your brood?
Was it even you at all
Or just a story from when I was small?

Every time they speak of you, I am told
You were wise, fair and kind
And I always wondered, if you were alive
Would you have paid me any mind?

Would you have been to me, what you were to the others
Or would I be kept at an arm's length?
Would you be cordial like your wife
Whom till this day makes my knees weak
Or would we have long conversations
Where I would learn the tongue I still cannot speak?

Every day before I left for school
I'd say goodbye to you
Until one day when I came back
The walls were all white, no black
My mother said your soul had moved on
And I accepted that you were gone.

Now I realise
They say those who become butterflies
Wish to see their loved ones one last time
So now I sit in tears and ween
If you came to see me
Does that mean...?
