She didn't get home until way past midnight, but the moment she did she fell asleep on the couch.
She woke up the next day to millions of missed calls from the whole squad. Shit. She called Jake and he told her to meet him and the squad at the hospital, Gina was there. Double shit.
She got to the hospital as soon as she could, the doctors and nurses were all telling her so many things whilst rushing around, but nothing they told her managed to reach below the surface. She had just turned the corner to where Gina's room was and was met with the whole squad stood outside the room. She had no idea what was happening, so she asked,
"What the hell is happening? Where's Gina?!"
Jake nodded towards the room, his arm around Amy who was uncontrollably sobbing.
"Is she okay?"
"They won't let us in, they'll only let in her emergency contact or immediate family but we don't know any of them."
It was Rosa. Rosa was the contact. She burst into the room to see Gina laying, motionless on the hospital bed, a deep cut along her cheek and a scraped bruise on her forehead. She explained who she was and then the doctors told her what had happened. They told her Gina had been hit by a bus, been knocked out, and had been unconscious since, but she was breathing. The chances of her making it through that night were low. Rosa felt hot tears streaming down her face, even the thought of Gina being gone shook her to her core.
"Would you like some privacy?"
She nodded, and so the doctors left.
She sat down next to Gina on the bed and brushed her hair from her face. Grasping Gina's hand tight and holding it against her heart. She was trying not to cry but she couldn't help it,
"I'm sorry baby." She said, her voice shaking.
"at least they know now-" she added, with a slight smile. "I know you hate me right now but you need to keep fighting, ig needs you, I need you. I'm not ready for life without you, so please-" her voice broke as she descended into full sobs.
She lay down next to Gina and kissed her cheek, knowing all too well that this could be the last chance she ever got. Minutes later she was rushed out of the room by a flurry of more doctors, and was made to go home.
