Lips still tingling from kissing his mate, he entered the castle. He wanted some alone time with the Headmaster, and thought this was a good time, having heard what he had. And leaving Draco was fine, as he was with friends. He had told Ron to not leave his side, and so he was comfortable. Walking up the stairs to the Headmaster's office, he remembered the first times he had walked these corridors. What a blast from the past. He had been so young and naive back then. But now, feeling that the castle was a part of him, he felt nothing but happiness and devotion.
He kept on walking when he felt the trepidation coming from Ron, and was about to turn back, when he heard Draco say, yes Harry would want it. Hearing the pride coming from Ron when he told them that he was a lieutenant made him glad. And the fact that he had first asked permission was astounding. The old Ron would have just blurted it out. So, change was coming, and it WAS going to be phenomenal, just like Dumbledore said it would be. Then he heard Blaise basically saying that his arse was on the line if anything happened to Harry. He smiled at that, and was again thankful for all of their sacrifice.
Students that were in the corridors were watching him with wonder, but Harry wasn't paying attention to them. He kept his focus on his circle of friends. Reaching the gargoyles, he whispered the password, Chocolate Frogs. They jumped aside, and let him pass. He walked up to the office door, and knocked three times. A soft "Come in", was heard from within. He opened the door, and saw that Dumbledore was at his desk, penning letters. "Just a moment Harry, I'm almost done", he said with a twinkle in his eye. Harry nodded.
While he was waiting, his thoughts turned to what had happened this morning with Fudge. What an imbecile, he thought. The announcement in the Daily Prophet had certainly caused quite a stir, but one for which Harry was grateful. It had been lies printed in the newspaper that had caused his Godfather, Sirius Black to be tainted as a mass murderer. Now he hoped, that Fudge knew how it felt to be totally helpless. Seeing that the Headmaster was standing up, seemingly finished with his letters, he walked towards him to shake his hand.
After calling a house elf to serve tea and biscuits, they settled down in their seats. Dumbledore smiled at Harry. He could see that his thoughts were elsewhere, and chose to give him a moment. The Alpha would speak when he was ready. "Professor Dumbledore, sorry for coming without an appointment", he started. "Nonsense Harry, how can I help you?", he asked.
"I heard the meetings that were held. Those at the Ministry", he said. Dumbledore was giggling, not a sound that Harry ever thought he would hear coming from the older man. Yet here he was, almost as if he was let in on something naughty. "And, what exactly did you hear my boy?", asked Dumbledore. He knew that Harry had no problem being called that, and never would. It was almost a parental thing.
He told him what he had heard, and who had said what, and wanted to know what his thoughts were on it. While Dumbledore was thinking about what to answer, Harry heard Draco's voice. How he loved him, and what being his mate meant to him. He felt a rush of love from him, and was overwhelmed. He already knew it, but to hear him voice it to others was quite beautiful. Gods, he loved the man so much, he had tears in his eyes at the words. Dumbledore, being a clever man, was watching him with a look in his eye that could only be read as, 'I know that look'.
But seeing that Harry's mood had changed from longing to serious, he started speaking. And Harry listened carefully. His headmaster was an intelligent man, and he would seek his advice often. Of that he was sure.
"Auror Richards is angry. He's wanted you on his team for a while, and he's not the sort of man that likes to take no for an answer". Harry laughed at that, and gave his own answer, "Well then, maybe it's about time he learned to. Look", he said, "I know that I have said that I wanted to become an auror, but the lawyer thing is starting to appeal to me, and now with the Alpha status, I don't know if I will even have time for that. Will I Professor, be able to defend people as a lawyer, while I am the Alpha?", he asked.
Dumbledore knew that Harry hated disappointing anyone, and so he said tenderly, "You can do both Harry, biding your time between the two. You can teach, instruct, or even be in the field, if you chose to do so. Choice is entirely yours. But I sense that something else is bothering you my boy". Harry stood up from where he was sitting. He had heard mutters being spoken at the Ministry, and wanted to throttle the people who had said them.
"There are some who don't believe in the soul mate bond. Not only that, they find it hard to believe that Draco and I are one. Yet after this morning, I thought I had made it quite clear when Fudge challenged me. If I choose a certain field, then they will have to take Draco as well, and that is where the problem lies. I will talk to Draco first, and I will give you my feedback". Just then Harry felt Pansy addressing his mate as her darling, and he let out a very loud growl. He knew that she had heard it, and waited for a response.
A very hasty apology soon followed, and he knew that it hadn't been said intentionally, and so he smiled and forgave her. He also told Draco, that he needed to taste him when he got back. [Fuck Harry], was the reply.
Dumbledore, after hearing the growl was smiling. When will the others learn that Draco belonged to Harry. In every single way, and why did he have to remind them of that fact. But he knew that Harry was also forgiving, he would take it in his stride. Not every time though, his patience would run out. He hoped that the day never came. Harry told his headmaster that he had a lot to think about, and discuss, but would let him know what his final decision was.
He also knew of the reply that had been sent by Snape to the Minister, and was already formulating an answer of his own. He would visit the Ministry, he would meet with Kingsley, and he would make his intentions known, but later. Much later, for he felt the need to do something else first.
He needed to get back to Draco.
