How do you tell a story with a song?

Cecille smiles at the compliment. Her music is legendary, both for it's raw emotion and stellar technique. But she never really understands it — the way she sees it, the stories are not hers to tell, but the music's. Cecille is only a mouthpiece, her callused fingers and melodic mind able to wrap their minds and find the essence of a song, to understand exactly what the composer intended — and then she performs, and the stories unfold of their own accord.

But none of the stories are ever her own. They are frozen, archaic stories and legends that thaw the hardest hearts, pain the cruelest souls, but —

why be a storyteller, and never tell your own story?

( If she won't, I will.)

AUTHOR'S NOTE . . .

welcome . . . to the new and improved version of firebird — mortal envy

honestly, i've been wanting to rewrite firebird for years: it's slightly cliche, cringe-worthy, has the most basic plot & writing, very superficial character development and a romance that makes me want to cry. plus cecille's character is just ... disappointing. i could've done so much more with her. but ! this means i know exactly where all my mistakes were, and i can rectify them this time ! i hope this will be one of the best things i've written in a while. i'm quite proud of what i've written so far ( despite the pathetic summary — please don't be put off by it, it just really sucks but i can do better, it makes me so embarrassed omg)  so i hope you all will like it !

cecille is . . . more unlikeable this time. she was a bit of a mary sue before, but now she's not in the right all the time ( shocking , i know, it's like she's actually human and not a robot ! ) and her character development is just awesome tbh. i hope you guys will like her as much as i do, this time.

i can't believe i have to say this, as it's the most minor thing ever, but i do play the violin ( well, i'm dropping violin in march, but i still play music and i like to think i know what i'm doing ) so this is not "inaccurate", i play the violin. STOP messaging me about how wrong i am about classical music, please. it's not that deep, even if it was inaccurate ( which it wasn't ) .

one last note, because the authors note is getting long — i support none of jkr's comments and any of the dumb shit she's said. some characters names will be changed to not be so offensive, and nothing she said after publishing the books is valid in my mind whatsoever. i watched a really interesting video on death of the author theory and it completely applies here. fuck her.
