Chapter 1

A Blonde Dude Has Amnesia and Remembers Nothing

I FELL FROM MY BED IN THE DORM. Waking up in cold sweat. Nightmares I thought as I got up to wake Piper. Three days. Three days since Percy had gone missing. Still no trace of him. I would get nightmares from time to time but this one was different. It was more like a message. There was a woman, in a goatskin cloak, and she said something about freeing her from a prison, before the Earth swallowed her, or something like that.

We were going on a field trip to the Grand Canyon today. But for some reason, I had a gut feeling that something was going to go wrong. I woke Piper up and went to the bathroom to change into some good clothes. I put on a white shirt with New York written on it. Some ripped denim shorts, white sneakers, a flower crown and some heart-shaped sunglasses.

"Lets go Pipes," I said.

"You ready?" She asks.

"Ready as I'll ever be!"

We met up with Leo who was waiting outside our dorm.

"Sup ladies," He said. His eyes widening and cheeks going slightly pink, when he saw me, but I never noticed.

"Sup Leo!" I said, hugging him, Pipes did the same thing as well.

"Let's go! We got a bus to catch!" Piper says as we ran to the buses running on to sit in the back.

It's been a while, on the bus a few hours, and that was way too long for an ADHD person like me so I took a quick nap. When I woke up I was leaning against Leo, who was drumming his fingers on his knee. Then I saw Piper, holding hands with a RANDOM PERSON? What happened? And who was he? For some reason he was looking confused.

Piper squished his hand and said, "Jason, you okay?" Okay what is going on? How does Piper know him? The realization hit me, like a slap in the face. The Mist. The dude, who's name is Jason, was somehow manipulating the Mist to give fake memories of him to everybody else. The Mist doesn't affect me, being blessed by the gods I have a strong mind.

Jason let go of her hand. "Um, I don't-"

In the front of the bus, a teacher shouted, "All right cupcakes, listen up!"

That was Coach Hedge. His baseball cap was pulled low over his hair so you could just see his beady eyes. He had a wispy goatee and a sour face, like he'd eaten something moldy for breakfast. His buff arms and chest pushed against a bright orange polo shirt. His nylon workout pants and Nikes were spotless white. A whistle hung from his neck, and a megaphone was clipped to his tool belt. He would have looked more intimidating if he hadn't been five foot. When he stood up in the alise a student yelled, "Stand up Coach Hedge!"

"I heard that!" The coach screamed, his eyes scanning the bus for who offended him. Then his eyes fixed on Jason, and his scowl deepend. I think he knew that Jason didn't belong here. He looked at me, but I just slightly shrugged my shoulders, not knowing who this dude was either. I knew something was going to go wrong. I guess I just have to play along, I thought. Can't I just have one normal school year, for god's sake.
