I didn't have any students today; but I still ended up being woken up at 4:00 in the morning. This time: it was just Nera.

I managed a small smile as I got out of bed, heading to her room.

"Hey, peanut," I greeted softly. "You okay?"

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes

 Carefully, I picked Nera up.

"Well; it's not your diaper..." I muttered. "You're probably just hungry."

 Nera continued to fuss.

"Hey; hey;" I soothed her; rubbing her back. "It's okay. Daddy's here; okay?? Daddy's got ya."

Rest your head close to my heart
Never to part
Baby of mine

Everybody in the world knew the whole story about me knocking Maggie Townsend up. To ease her burden and clear my conscience; I offered to raise Nera myself.

Yeah; I fainted watching that horrifying birthing video and did the same thing in the delivery room; but who hasn't??

Little one, when you play
Don't you mind what they say

I haven't regretted my decision in the few months that Nera's been with me. Screw my gold; this little girl is the best thing to ever happen to me.

And I want to be a better man than I was.

For her.

Let those eyes sparkle and shine
Never a tear
Baby of mine

"There we go..." I smiled as I fed her. "That's better; huh??"

I tickled her chin; causing her to smile.

"We have a big day tomorrow, princess," I said gently. "We're gonna see your grandparents."

As you can imagine; my parents were shocked when they heard the news; while my brothers thought it was a damn miracle I didn't have twelve of 'em. But they love her all the same; just as I do.

From your head to your toes (Baby mine)
You're so sweet, goodness knows (Baby mine)

My heart melted as Nera yawned; my face filling with the same amount of love I felt when I held her for the first time.

"Let's get a few more hours of sleep," I offered; putting her in her crib. "Don't worry; Daddy's gonna stay right here." I gently stroked her cheek.

You are so precious to me
Cute as can be
Baby of mine

"I love you," I whispered. "I love you so much."

Like I said, this little girl-my little girl-really has changed me.

And come Hell or high water; I'm gonna do right by her.
