SUMMARY: WHEN IT COMES TO HIS LOVE FOR YOU, KARL CAN'T SEEM TO TAKE A HINT.

Karl knew how you'd felt about him, and as much as he tried to convince himself otherwise, it was pretty apparent your relationship with him was nothing more than a sappy friendship. And while he craved for your infinite affection, especially ever since you started dating your new boyfriend, he knew your relationship would never prosper. It hurt him, broke his heart seeing you happy with someone else. But in the end, who was he to break up true love?

So, as he stood on your doorstep, with a half-wilted bouquet of flowers in his hand, realization washed over him, as well as the rain that poured heavily from the clouds above. He remembered the first time he'd confessed his feelings for you, in that exact same spot on your porch, on another stormy night just like the one he'd been experiencing then. A flashback from your prior conversation made his conscious mind become jumbled, as all rationality in his head turned fuzzy.

He was yanked from his loose train of thought, as you opened the door to reveal the defeated boy in front of you. You stepped outside and closed the door behind you, leaving your boyfriend waiting patiently inside. He stood quietly in the rain, as the air filled with his visible breath from how cold it'd been outside. He shuffled his feet and kicked the gravel beneath him, averting eye contact with you. "I just wanted to see you." You walked slowly to him, and stood in the rain with him.

He slid his jacket from around him, and crossed it over your shoulders. "I'm sorry- I know I probably shouldn't be here but," Waterdroplets flowed down his face, from his eyelashes to his lips, water contouring around his facial features, ones which you couldn't help but stare at. You nudged his shoulder and laughed. "It's okay, I mean who says I can't just kick it with my best friend?" Best friend. The bitter word cut Karl like a knife, reminding him of what you two would be until the end of time. Best friends.

Your hair was soaking wet, pressed firmly against your forehead and flowing down past your shoulders, as your small umbrella had been proven useless against the countless number of rain droplets. You smiled at Karl, hugging his windbreaker around your shoulders, as he tried to warm the cold chill that'd been sent through his body from the rain. "Y'know Karl, the rain is really nice," He ran his hand slowly through his soaked hair, taking a step closer to you.

You continued, "But I- I don't really like getting wet." You laughed, as Karl poured his lip out at you, slowly stroking your thumb against his cheek. He leaned his head into the palm of your hand, and spoke softly. "Why don't you love me?" You pulled away from him and sighed. "Can we not do this today, please? Especially not in front of," He scoffed and darted his eyes back to his car. "Yeah I know not in front of him." You reached for his hand, only for it to be violently yanked from your grasp.

"I did what I was supposed to," He looked over his shoulder back to your house. "So why did you choose him?" You dropped your arms to your sides, not bothering to respond to him, continuing to let the rain soak your clothes. He continued. "This isn't fair Y/n." He didn't even wait for your response, but instead threw his bouquet to the ground, covering the flowers in mud. He walked back to his car, leaving you standing there in the rain, like you'd left him many times before.
