"They don't belong in Narnia and I don't belong in their world."
Aslan and I walked on the shores of the beach, the sunset giving everything a pink tint. I kicked the sand under my bare feet.
"Is it true?" I asked as we walked. "That uh- that Jadis is... you know."
He drew a deep breath. "Yes, my dear." He said. "I know you remember your old town but your parents had just adopted you. You were left in a basket in front of their house."
"How original." I scoffed. I was speaking to no one in particular. "I guess this is it then," I said solemnly.
"Yes," He stopped walking for a moment and turned to face me. "You will do great things. I will miss you, dearly. But I must be off."
I nodded my head with a soft smile. "I understand," I say. "I'll see you again, Aslan." He nods with a smile before he continues walking. I stand there and watch as he walks off into the sunset, leaving pawprints behind in the sand.
The whole me being queen thing came as a shock and I still don't know what to do, quite honestly.
I heard twigs cracking in the woods behind me and my hands tingled with energy before I saw Peter walk out, throwing his hands up in defense. "It's just me." He laughs before sliding down the rock to me. "Come on, it's time for dinner." He takes my hand in his, interlacing our fingers as we start to walk back to the glistening palace that's now, somehow my home.
Home.
20 YEARS LATER
The five of us tore through the woods on horseback hunting the white stag. We had told the consorts that we could do it by ourselves. It wasn't going too well.
We laughed the whole way, scaring away any creature in a three-mile radius. I looked behind me and suddenly didn't see Edmund.
"Say, has anyone seen Edmund?" I say as I pull my horse to a stop. Susan and Lucy turn around to see him missing too.
"No, shall we go find him?" Everyone agreed and then we were off in the opposite direction. We found him sitting there talking to his horse, Phillip.
"Come on, Ed." Susan says as we all ride up to him.
I laugh a little at Edmund's face of surprise.
"Just catching my breath." He tells us.
"Well, that's all we'll catch at this rate." I tease him earning a look of sarcasm from him. I look at Peter with a smile. We're married now and living in the castle together has been the most fun I've ever experienced.
Lucy and Susan continued to tease their brother who sits there with a grim, playful look on his face. Adults but still acting like children.
"What's this?" Peter asks curiously as he hops off of his horse. I follow his gaze to see a light pole with ivy twisted around it. "It seems familiar." He says. I've never seen it before.
"As if from a dream," Lucy says as we all look at the burning fire within the glass chamber. "Or a dream of a dream." She looks around curiously before realization comes to her. "Spare Oom." She says.
I cock my head to the side. "Spare what now?"
She doesn't respond, apparently that what everyone likes to do when I ask them stuff. Instead, she runs off to the side. Everyone follows.
"Lucy!"
"Not again."
She urges everyone through the colorful fall leaves. Then suddenly they aren't leaves. They're coats.
"Susan, you're on my foot!" Edmund yells.
"Peter, move off!" Susan argues. We all push forward into this cramped closet-like space.
Then one, by one we all fall out of the closet into a giant room like I've never seen before. We all sit up and look around and that's when I realize we're not our adult selves anymore... we're kids again! Then, a strange man walks in.
"Oh!" He says gleefully. "There you are. What were you all doing in the wardrobe?" He looks at each one of us. "And where did you come from?" He looks at me. All five of us exchange the same look. What do we say?
"You wouldn't believe us if we told you, sir," Peter said with a smile. He tossed Peter a toy.
"Try me." We all laughed a little bit but my laughter fell short when my fingers started to feel numb. At first, I thought it was my magic but when I looked, my fingers were disappearing. Then my arms.
"Peter...?" I said worriedly. "Peter?" He looked at me and his face fell.
"Y/N?" He questioned as he scooted over to me. He tried to pull me into a hug but it was too late. My vision went black and the world seemed to be spinning and twisting. Then I felt as if I was falling. My ears rang, and silver dots clouded my vision.
I sighed heavily as I felt the rest of my body slowly begin to disappear. Limb by limb I slipped from Peter's grasp. The last thing I heard was Peter yelling for me.
I didn't belong there and suddenly I was thrown back into the snowy forest of Narnia as if it never happened at all. I stared at the place where the door once was. Once was.
The door was gone. Peter was gone. It felt as though it was all for nothing. I wrapped my cloak closer to me as the cold air nipped at me.
As I stood up, tears running down my face, I wondered only one thing. Would he ever come back?
