Mom- why are y'all asking me this now? *getting nervous

Vallyk- we deserve to know

Me- he just said that he has another family in New York. Mom he replaced us

Vallyk- we wanna know why. You always said he just didn't want kids, but now we finding out that he's been raising somebody else's all this time

Mom- I wanted to tell you guys this when y'all were older, which y'all are now, so I expected y'all to eventually ask

Me- so, what happened?

Mom- ok so there were a couple of reasons why we didn't work out, one was Erica. I don't know if y'all remember her

Vallyk- I do

Me- yeah me too, dad would used to bring us to the zoo with her niece all the time

Mom- yeah so, the amount of times y'all seen her and I haven't met her once. They relationship was always weird to me, every time we was supposed to meet each other, she always had a weird excuse why she couldn't make it or whatever

Me- so you think dad had an affair with her?

Mom- possibly, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised cause he was always so secretive about her, and for her to be his "bestfriend" or whatever, you would think I'd know her

Me- right

Vallyk- but what does that have to do with him leaving?

Me- let her tell the story! You wanted these answers right?

Vallyk- *sighs* go ahead

Mom- it was a lot of stuff I heard about him and his coworker too so basically he'd been doing whatever he wanted to do and not respect our marriage so I left him, filed for separation and everything. Skip to a few months later he begging for me back, and we was on the phone for like 5 hours. So I took him back, then I got pregnant with yall and it all went downhill from there

Me- now momma why did you go back to him?

Mom- cause he wouldn't let me get off the phone, I was just like "fine" so he could leave me alone. But anyways, one day, he lied about going to this event for work, which they only have like every other year. In my head I could've sworn the event happened already but he said it was canceled so I was just like whatever. It gets around 5, I'm calling his phone and he not answering

Me- Unt uh

Mom- so then I called the company running the event, acting like I was somebody that supposed to be there, and they said they had the event in February, it was September! Then my best friend Jennifer, you know Lailah's momma, she called me talking bout she seen him at the mall and she said that he said he was meeting somebody

Vallyk- damn

Me- that ain't right

Mom- so now I'm blowing up his phone, and he still don't answer. So I wait till he get home, mind you he was supposed to be home by six at the most, this nigga ain't come back till 11:00 at night

Me- you cussed him out huh?

Mom- yeah I was like "where were you?" and he said "I was at the event I told you" "the event ended at 5, it's 11 o clock at night so.." he said "it was traffic"

Me- he can't even lie right

Vallyk- it ain't gon be no traffic for 6 hours

Me- right

Mom- so we arguing and I finally say "I called the company and they said the event was in February so where were you all day? And Jennifer said she saw you at the mall in the store" He was quiet for a minute, trying to come up with an excuse, but he stayed with his lie. And one thing about me, is that you can lie all you want to, but it's gonna make me look at you different, especially when I know you lying, so I lost so much respect for him. Cause nigga I'm pregnant with your babies, not 1 but 2 of dem, and you lying bout where you at and doing me some typa way like what the hell

Me- you was pregnant with us?

Mom- yup

Vallyk- you find out where he was at?

Mom- oh yeah I called my bestfriend real quick, and you know, Laii just like her momma, they like to investigate. So on Facebook, she's friends with this boy we used to go to school with, and his sister was back in town for the week. His sister just so happens to be your Dad's ex girlfriend. So I just put the pieces together

Me- mmm

Mom- I emailed her saying "you can have him" and all this, and she responded saying she didn't know that I was pregnant and that he said we were separated. Which we weren't, I filed for separation the first time but we never signed it. She ended up telling me what I already assumed, he went to go see her, and they had sex in the car and stuff. So I confronted him, he confessed finally. I wanted to leave, but he convinced me to do it for y'all's sake, it just wasn't the same after that. He completely broke our marriage. I filed for separation after that, and they were signed.

Me- dad had an affair while you were pregnant?

Mom- mhm

Vallyk- he really ain't shit

Mom- And being pregnant, all that stress and issues ain't good for my babies, and that's why I ended up in labor so early, stressing over that whole situation.

Me- oh my gosh

Mom- y'all could have died cause of that, and if y'all did, I would have never forgiven him, or myself actually.

Vallyk- that's crazy, I never knew that

Me- yea me either

Mom- as for the reason he left, I'm not sure. After we got a divorce completely, he was in yall life up until y'all was 4, and co-parenting was amazing. He was a good dad. Until one day, he just left. He didn't tell anybody why. I hope what I told y'all helped a little bit. I never pushed him out yall life, or resented him for the shit he did when we was together because he was still yall dad, and I was passed it, I made peace with it. But whatever the reason is, it wasn't because of you guys, don't ever think that. I'm so sorry you guys are going through this, and the whole effect it put on y'all growing up. And he missed out, despite our disagreements and issues, y'all are the best kids I've ever raised.

Me- mom I've been to jail

Vallyk- yeah and I sold drugs

Mom- I don't care, y'all are mine. I wouldn't have it any other way. Plus y'all bounced back from all that. And now y'all both got scholarships to a bunch of schools, I'm proud of y'all

Me- thanks mom

Mom- come here

She hugged us both and kissed our foreheads

Mom- I love you guys

Me- love you too

Vallyk- love you too

Vallyk and I then went in my car and drove home

Me- now what?

Vallyk- we gotta talk to dad

Me- *sighs*

One thing I learned today, there are a lot of people actively in my life, that will come through for me every time. Like when I got arrested, that was the hardest point in my life, my mom literally just brushed it off and supported me through it. I break down crying at my birthday party, Devante wipes my tears and makes me feel better. Just today in general, everybody showed up, and showed out for our party. Yeah I would want an explanation for why my dad disappeared from our lives but I just feel like we should appreciate the people in our life that actually care about us. Knowing the truth isn't gonna justify the hurt we've been through. I just don't see a point, but vallyk does, so ima ride for my twin. But I'm starting to make peace with my Dad's absence, just like Mom.
