A New Struggle (zuko x male reader)

ch 6: the western air temple

   after walking for a very long time everyone was tired and silent. katara was the first to break the silence, "this is humiliating." "do you mean throughly getting spanked by the fire nation or having to walk all the way to the western air temple?" sokka asks. "sokka everything's going to be ok and you know appa gets tired especially having to carry so many more of us." i chip in. "yeah i know. i'm just tired." sokka responds.

"i wonder how the rest of the troops are." "they're probably on their way to a prison. seems like my dad just got out now he's going back in." the others keep talking, about who they miss, or what they wonder is going to happen and wonder what is happening. we stop at the edge of some ravine when toph stomps. "we're here! i can feel it!" toph says excitedly. "uhh i think you're feet needs their eyes checked." katara says. "no she's right. we are here!" aang says. sokka looks around puzzled when everyone realizes that the temple is underneath the ravine. we all get down onto the temple, ready for a break. the other kids go off in search for secret rooms when katara tells us, the others, need to talk. sokka tells aang that aang needs to master the four elements before the comet arrives. katara suggests looking for a man named jeong jeong to teach aang fire bending and aang doesn't think that'll happen. toph and i are both puzzled as to who jeong jeong is but we decide to leave it alone.

   we're chasing aang and trying to get him to come down and make a plan. aang is going on about things he can show us when toph says, "i think that'll have to wait." and appa moves out the way revealing a guy dressed in red with black shaggy hair with a scar on his left eye. "hello, zuko here." says zuko. the boy i hoped i wouldn't have to see.

   the other four assume a fighting position while i stare at zuko in astonishment. past memories come rushing back as i stare. meanwhile they're arguing but i'm tuning it all out. "y/n! i missed you!" yells zuko. "don't talk to me" i say waterbending some water from a fountain next to us and splashing it on him. "what? you're a water bender?" he asks. "what did i say. don't talk to me." as i'm walking he pleads for me to talk to him. "zuko. you broke my heart. now is not the time." i say to him, walking away. the other are talking about why he was here. "y/n! come back! we have to talk about what we're going to do!" sokka yells. "let him go. this has gotta be hard seeing him again." katara says. "i'll be back guys, i just need some time to myself fill me in later." i say with a smile. as i walk away the others are arguing with toph. and i'm kinda on tophs side. aang needs a firebending teacher and he could be of use.

   it's the next morning and i see everyone with some food i decide to sit and eat. katara hands me a bowl of dice and eat very fast. at the same time i hole emerges from the side of the cliff and toph crawling out. "toph what's wrong are you ok?" i yell running to her. "my feet got burned." she says. toph tells us that she went to go zuko and everyone is freaking out on her. "guys freak out on her later right now we need to help her." i say picking her up and carrying her to the fountain nearby. i set her down on the edge and let her feet in the water so the burns can cool. "katara come here, i don't know how to heal." i tell her. "ugh. fine." she walks over and starts to heal her as best she can. the boys are trying to come up with a plan on how to capture zuko. "can we please stop talking about him. we have more important things to handle." the other look at me with wide eyes. i've never raised my voice at anyone but they're aggravating me with all this talk about zuko. "i'm sorry but it's hard to think about him again. after everything that happened i tried to block him out and now that he's being brought up again it hurts to remember what happened." i tell them. "it's ok y/n we understand." aang tells me while sokka puts a hand on my shoulder.

   an explosion hits the temple and we hear zuko yelling at some really big guy that seems to be fire bending with his mind. we duck for cover as zuko continues fighting this guy. another explosion occurs and as we look up zuko is no where to be seen. "ZUKO" i yell frightened. aang creates a tornado and send it to the man. he jumps over it and is joe getting closer to us. katara and i run and throw shards of ice towards the guy using all the water we have. he blocks them all and looks for us. we hide behind a pillar while sending the shards towards him as a distraction. sokka switched places with katara and throws his boomerang and is able to hit him rigjt in the third eye. the man sadly stands back up. he attempts to send an explosion towards us but instead he blows himself up. we all stare in astonishment and then zuko climbs back up. without thinking i run and hug him as he walks towards us. he hugs back and aang is talking to him. i let go and give him a harsh glare and i sit next to toph. he sounds genuine but i don't know why i hugged him. i guess i was just happy he was alive. i hate this. i'm not talking to him. aang asks the other if it's ok if he joins and they agree he saves me for last. "y/n. he's probably hurt you the most. is it ok if he joins." aang asks. i look up at aang, then zuko, then back down. "someone needs to teach you firebending. i'm ok with it aang." zuko expresses his gratitude by coming up to me give me a hug but i stand up and walk away. i'm not letting him get to me again. i cant.

   as i sit in my room alone i hear a knock at my door. "come in!" i shout. as the door opens zuko walks in. i turn to see him and turn back around looking out the window. "yes?" i ask. "i wanted to apologize for what happened in ba sing se." he says. "ok." "please. hear me out." he says. i gesture my hand towards a chair for him to sit on as i lean against the wall. "i shouldn't have went with azula. i should've listened to you and uncle and stayed. but i thought i had to restore my honor. i loved you y/n. i still love you. ever since then, not a day has passed where i didn't think about you. i'm sorry y/n. please. forgive me." he finishes.

"i want to forgive you zuko believe me i do. but i was truly heartbroken that day. i'm still trying to fix myself from that day. i tried blocking you out but in the end i never could. there's a part of me that wants to just flat out say 'i love you' and i'd be lying if i said i didn't. i do. i never stopped. but, right now. give me some time. but for right now. i kinda forgive you." i say with grin. "thank you. thank you so much." he stands and hugs me. i hug him back. the same warm feeling he radiates is still there from when we first met. let's see how this goes.
