Maisie Parker, unlike her counterpart, was bit by a radioactive spider when studying a genetically modified species of grasshoppers in a lab. She was sent to do this research for her mentor, Tony Stark, who hired her based off of her phenomenal IQ score and interest in the Iron Man.

The bug escaped, biting into her skin.

From there, she acquired arachnid powers, using her abilities to be a hero just like her idol. Becoming: Spider-Jane.*

Derived from her middle-name and the term 'Jane,' she's the hero that New York needs.
