"So What if I Like Him?" (Merida's point of view)

I absolutely, positively, no doubt....will get on the Quidditch team. I love flying on my Yajirushi (the latest model!!) and feeling the exhilarating rush of diving, swerving, and soaring! I really want to be Seeker, because that's one of the spots that have just opened up, but I'm okay with anything, honestly, even Beater! Quidditch trials are this evening, and I'm so ready! Right now I'm feeling a much different feeling than exhilaration and exuberance----and that is complete and utter boredome. I'm doodling with my quill (I don't understand why we can't use pencils!!) in Charms class while Proffesor Flitwick rattles on and on about the Mufliato charm. None of my friends are here because they all fall in the extended 8th year. I am only 17, so I qualify for 7th year. It pretty much sucks.

Alice is in my year, we talk sometimes. She's Luna Lovegood's daughter. She can get a bit well, "Out of propotions..." you could say. She believes in Nargles, which I'm fine with! I believe in whisps.... so we get along.

Also in my year is Snow White. Most. Annoying. Person. Ever. Seriously, she rattles on and on in her squeaky voice about the wonders of singing by the wishing well and singing with "those wonderous little birdies.

Also, Wendy is in my year. She's as scholarly as you can get, mostly having her nose in big fat books. When ever she produces sound she talks about books and Neverland. But she's so smart and sharp-witted, she aces every single class! No wonder her mom is Hermione!

So the bell rings, and we all chaotically scamper out of class. I get knocked sideways, bumped, and bruised by careless jerks. Despite the craziness of the hallways due to Quidditch, I was the first one out on the field. First, I had to be able to show a good, sharp eye, and they had all who wanted to be Seeker search for the Golden Snitch, hovering over in the corner in plain sight! I was obviously the first one to find it, and I did the most impressive dive I could possibly do, adornished by a fancy swirl on my broom, and the Snitch fell perfectly into my hand. Our next task was to show a swerve, dive, and acceleration on our brooms. No problem! Finally, I had to do some written test about strategy, with questions like "what do you do when you've seen the Snitch, but want the other person misled?" Too easy! Overall, I think it went fantastically!! Everybody clapped for my demonstrations and for when I caught the Snitch, and I can only hope for the best. Pocahontas came to congratulate me, as well as Anna, and even Hiccup...

As he walked over I started to blush like crazy, as did he. He pretended to be intensely interested with the grass, and his embarresed expression told me everything I needed to know. "Hey...um, you did really great out there!"

He chuckled, as I lifted his chin to my face. We were nose to nose, and I just manned up and kissed him. He kissed me back brushing my hair away from my face. Phew!! I actually did it. He let go, and then smirked at me. I nudged his shoulder. We held hands as we walked away from the field. Oh, how I wish he could be in Gryffindor. I would visit him every day. Well, I might be able to now... no. This was all way too awkward.

Opening the door to my dormitory, I fell backwards on my bed. I turned my head to see my roomate, Alice, upside down on her bed, reading the Quibbler. She tossed it aside and glared at me.

With her far off, dreamy voice she said, "How did Qudditch go? I'm not quite fond of it myself, of course, but I hope you did well anyways." She came to sit next to me on the bed.

I shrugged, sighed, and said, "It went alright, I guess. Do yeh know tha' kid, Hiccup? Mendungus? Shy smile, dreamy, emerald eyes, Hufflepuff..."

She rolled her eyes. "So you like him? It's pretty obvious. I will not take no for an answer." She crossed her arms, arching an eyebrow, expecting me to answer. Yet I really didn't want to. If I could just disappear...

"Merida! Answer me! You know I am not a patient girl!" She snapped her fingers crazily around my face, I pushed them away.

"So wha' if I like 'em? It's none of yer bus'ness!!!!" I retort defensively. I blushed bright scarlet, identically matching my fiery red hair.

Alice fell on the floor laughing. No, I'm serious, she rolled across the carpet, knocking my tapestry over.

She stood up quickly, her watch emitting shrill, short beeps like mad.

"Must be tea time!" From almost out of nowhere, she pulls out a full set of tea and pastries laid out across a beautifully engraved platter. I smelled the pastries before my other senses got a chance to process the goodness!! As she stuffed her face, she handed me a short-bread cookie (A Scottish las' favorite!) adorned with swirl of caramel. I gingerly lift it towards my mouth.

"So, do yeh like anyone, Alice?" I test her, feeling the dulcet taste of the caramel, quickly followed by the buttery crumbles of the shortbread. She dropped her fork and teacup, spilling it. This girl does not clean up her messes, well, neither do I...

"I um---no---but---yes? I mean---I like p-p-pittipeh."

I raised an eyebrow. "'Scuze me?"

"His name is-is pur-purterpin" she replied, blushing vehemently. She's breathing deeply now, fists clenched.

"Yeh like a pewter pin...?"

"I LIKE PETER, OK? PETER PAN! I KNOW HE LIKES WENDY, BUT I LOVE HIM! THERE, I SAID IT," she bellows with a towering rage.

"Merlin's Beard, Alice, I'm sorry!"

She stormed off, slamming the door behind her with a bang. Poor, poor, crazy Alice.
