I wake up, gasping. Looking around, I see that I'm in my room. thank goodness- I thought I was going to be lost in that nightmare forever.

My door opens slowly, and Wilbur pokes his head into my room.

"Hey, are you alright?" He asks softly.

"Yeah," I respond. "I just had a bad dream, that's all."

"I'm sorry, I don't like bad dreams much," Wilbur says.

"Can you sing a song so I can fall back asleep please, Wilbur?" I ask.

"Of course. Which one?"

"Since I saw Vienna."

Wilbur grabs his guitar and plays the opening chords as I flip my pillow over.

I pull my covers back up as he starts to sing softly.

"That cute bomber Jacket You've had since sixth form

Adorned with patches of places you've been

Is nothing on my khaki coat that I got

From a roadside 

when I was sixteen"

I softly shut my eyes.

"My boots are from airports

My backpack's from friends

I'm not a man of substance and so I'll pretend

To be a wanderer, wandering

Leaving ascetic belongings in hostels and restaurant bins"

I yawn and turn over.

"Cut that bit out"

"The roads are my home as horizon's my target

If I keep on moving, never lose sight of it

Treating my memory of you like a fire let it

Burn out, don't fight it and try to move on"

I can feel myself getting more and more drowsy, and I know that I'll fall asleep very soon.

"It's been sixty weeks since I saw Vienna

A bandage and a wide smile slapped across my face

I'll pick up my hiking boots when I am ready

And I'll put my roots down when I'm dead"

I'm so tired now, my mind is getting foggy, my limbs feeling heavy.

"The distance is futile

Come on, don't be hasty

You'll get that feeling deep inside your

Bones

I'll be gone then 

when you must be 

alone."

Darkness takes over my mind as the last few notes of the song fade out, sending me into a deep sleep.
