Second Chances

S I X

He pauses for a moment and sits down.

"But threat is imminent, and I have to protect the one thing that I can't live without. That's you. My suits, they're uh..."

"Machines."

"They're part of me."

"A distraction. Alicia just left, she wanted you to have that. Now it's been two weeks, you hardly talked to each other. She cooked for you and made sure you had enough sleep. She's talked to JARVIS about locking the lab up for a few days so you could have a vacation. She loves you, she just wants to do what's right."

"Maybe."

I walk towards him and we hug each other. I remove his headband that controls the Iron Man suits.

"I'm gonna take a shower, you need to figure out what you need. Read the letter and look at the watch."

"Okay."

Later that night, he asked me to sleep with him. I wanted to make sure he was okay first. I quickly wake up to see him having nightmares.

"Tony! Tony! Tony! Tony..."

Suddenly I'm gets grabbed and shoved off Tony by the suit, it wakes him up.

"Power down!"

The suit shuts down and Tony hits it making its pieces fall apart, he looks over at me who is in shock.

"I must have called it in my sleep. That's not supposed to happen. I'll recalibrate the sensors. Can we just...just let me...just let me catch my breath, okay?"

I quickly rise off the ground and start to leave.

"Don't go, alright? Pepper?"

"I'm going to sleep downstairs. Tinker with that."

I leave the room and make my way downstairs.

It's been a few days, the watch have went off 6 times exactly. I keep track of them, hopefully they'll be less in the future. I was talking with my father about how the Wakanda's vibruiam would be good for my suit. I keep telling him that it'll be better if it wasn't. My brother and younger sister suggest that ill be easier to protect others if I wasn't worried about myself or the damage done to me. We were talking about new ideas when the TV showed a video or an explosion. I see Happy being wheeled out on a stretcher. My suit quickly forms to my body as I stand up.

"I have to go, my friends need me."

"Alicia..."

I look to my father, he lightly smiles.

"Be careful."

I nod and I disappear, I look around to see that I'm in the middle of the accident. I rush over to the ambulance as I jump in with him. They look at me and I smile.

"I'm his sister."

They don't say anything, we quickly get to  hospital as the put him in a room. They get him clean and stitched up, they soon leave me with him.

"Happy, I'm so sorry."

He grunts, he can't say much as he has a tube down  his throat. I grab his hand and it starts to heal him.

"I can help, I shouldn't have left. You and Pepper will never be safe with him hurting himself. I know that it's hard with nightmares and stuff but your his friends and family. You three were suppose to be taking care of each other."

As he grunts, the door opens and a nurse walks in. I pull always slightly to break the healing process, I stand up and look at her.

"Could you let me know when he's better, my number is with his boss. I would like to know when it's healed properly."

She smiles as I walk out, I get down the hall and I feel him.

"I know you're here, just come out."

I turn around and see his suit step out. It seems to watch me carefully. I walk closer to it, I frown.

"I'm here for Happy, tell Pepper to call me if anything happens."

It just looks at me, I don't really know if he's connected with it right now or not but I smile anyway. I start walking  away before I remember something else.

"Oh, one more thing."

The suit looks back at me, I smile before decking it. The suit falls back and lands on its back.

"Maybe it wasn't you but I sure hope it hurt your pride a bit."

I walk back before teleporting to the house, I pull up the holographic images of the hospital in his lab. It seems he's wanting to put a show on. Someone starts walking downstairs, I quickly close it up as Pepper looks at me.

"What are you doing here"

"I was at the hospital with happy, I figured while Stark was away that I would stay here to watch over you. Maybe look at some stuff and see if I can find anything to help."

She looks at me for a moment before calling me over to her. I smile as we walk upstairs, I follow her into the kitchen as she grabs a bottle of wine. I laugh as the cork pops off, she hands me a glass.

"I want you to know that he needs you."

I look at her for a moment, she seems shaken up.

"What happen."

"Well the night you left, he asked me to comfort him. He started having nightmares, I tried to wake him up but his suit attacked me."

"Are you alright."

"I'm fine but it scared me."

"I'm sorry"

She shakes her head as JARVIS turns on the TV. It shows that Stark has told the entire world the address, I look at Pepper. The car shows him driving away from the hospital.

"Pepper you get upstairs and start packing the bags. I need to beat his ass when he gets back."

She frowns and walk upstairs, I hear her moving around. I sit down in one of the chairs facing the windows edge. Watching the ocean this early in the morning is nice, even when it's being threaten by a terrorists.
