Two years with Ava went by so fast. It was very difficult though, with all the crying and sleepless nights. There was not much space in the apartment since Ava's toys and baby things took up so much space. I was constantly tired with my architecture job and breastfeeding Ava. Percy was also extremely exhausted, but he could easily re-energize with water, so he got an advantage to parenting with that. Today though, I was on my own.

It was almost 1 am. I couldn't sleep though I was so tired so I was standing on the balcony waiting for Percy to come home from where ever he went. He was so vague with the details of where he went, but I was to busy to care much at the time. I was glad Ava was asleep though. She usually takes forever to finally sleep.

The door opened and I turned around to see Percy coming in. He didn't see me, since the lights were off, so he tried to be quiet with taking off his shoes and jacket.

"Where have you been?" I said.

Though I said it as a casual question, he flinched, looking up and seeing me at the balcony.  I walked inside.

"What took you so long to get home?" I asked. I assumed it was traffic or something. I always give people the benefit of the doubt because I didn't want to jump to the worst conclusions and embarrass myself for being wrong.

He flicked on the light switch. "Uh, I was trying to find another job. It got really late though, and I also got stuck in traffic. Also there was a hydra."

He just glossed over the fact that he was looking for another job like it was nothing, that I almost didn't ask about it. Almost.

"Another job?"

He shifted his weight. "Well, the rent had been getting tight because of all the stuff we've been having to get for Ava. I mean, baby clothes aren't really cheap so I thought to just look for another job."

"Ah..ok," I said. It was still weird that he only got home now, since I expected job interviews wouldn't take place after 11 pm, but I thought nothing of it.

He shifted his weight again. He seemed uncomfortable and tried to squeeze his way to the bedroom but instead tripped on Ava's building blocks. Muttering a curse, he got up. At that moment, I don't why, but I got a bit mad.

"If you keep tripping on the stuff, why don't you help me clean it up?" I said.

He glanced at me. "I don't have time."

"I don't have any time either! But I'm doing much more than you! I'm the one that changes her diaper, who plays with her. All you do is give her baths and occasionally feed her!" I said, my voice a bit louder than normal.

He turned around and looked at me. "Listen, I love Ava, and I'm doing as much as I can for this family. I'm the one going to work double time, I'm the one who is whisked away to camp for emergency's and I'm so tired."

"You know what, forget it." I said. I walked past him and into the room. I pulled back the bed covers and slipped into them quietly since Ava's crib was in here to.  After 10 minutes I felt Percy lie down on the bed next to me.

"Annabeth," he whispered. I didn't reply.

He sighed. "I'm sorry. I know you're doing so much more than me, and I shouldn't have gotten mad at you."

I opened my eyes and reached to take his hand. "It's ok," I whispered back. "I'm sorry too."

That's all I needed to say because he kissed me. I kissed him back ferociously. We fought for dominance, our tongues swirling together. We broke away though and drifted into uneasy sleep.
