Hazel was riding back from the district where Andrew's family lived. It had been a rough moment telling them the sadly news. In order to teach Nifa a lesson from her reckless decision, Hazel had taken her so she could see what to be a leader could be in this kind of situations. Like she had previewed, Nifa felt the weight of her decision.
The returning was quiet until they made it back. Leaving their horses at the stable, Nifa stopped her before entering the main building.
"I think I learned my lesson, Captain. But there's still something bothering me. I need to tell you something." Nifa looked ashamed to her feet recovering some courage. "It was me." Hazel stood still wondering what the hell she was talking about and waited for her to look back at her. "I made up the gossips about you and Ackerman. I was jealous about how he easily was going to ascend, even though he had a month and I have a year here. I imagined that making everyone thought that he had privileges, they would hate him and he would reject the promotion. But he has proven he is apt to do the job, not like me, I was wrong. I apologize, miss, my actions are reproachable. I will take any punishment."
"Nifa, you had said so. You made the gossip to attack him, not me. I accept your apologize but you will need to apologize to him. It's not a punishment, but it's time for you to do the right thing. Start with this." Hazel left her speechless and she could understand, it would be scary to confront him after all she said. "Good luck."
Hazel went to her office surprised, she couldn't imagined that Nifa would be the one gossiping, all the time her suspicions were to Rose who was always stalking him.
Wow, the cleaning devil himself was here.
The air still smell like cleaning supplies and everything was in order. She thought that she would find Levi in the room but it was empty. He might be cleaning the whole headquarter.
After her shower she went to look for him or someone alive, the halls were empty and it was late, the cadets were supposed to be back by then. While she approached the mess hall, her last stop, the noise grew. Entering she found a real mess, everyone taking drinks, screaming in joy, cheering and booing. A group of soldiers were even singing over a table. Other groups talking in loud voice. There was a group surrounding a table looking to a kind of gamble between some.
Nobody noticed her presence while she walked in, she found Erwin with a beer in hand watching from the distance to the table of the gambling with boring face or more like he can't control the situation and didn't want to. She sat by his side and took a look.
"Hmmm, I see." She grabbed herself a jar of beer and stood sitting just like him watching the arm match between Miche and Levi. Hange was over a chair making the gambles with the cadets screaming loudly and everyone else was giving her the money and effusively watching who would win.
"What do you say, Miche or Levi?" He had the same boring face, knowing there was nothing to do with the situation.
"I think Miche won't stop crying for a whole month." Erwin agreed with her. "Are they drunk?"
He nodded. "Before this, they made a gamble of who could drink more beer jars in a minute. Levi has an unbelievable toleration to alcohol for his size, but he might be a little drunk after 3 rounds, Miche exceed his top, but it wasn't enough to win, so after that, he chose this."
"I withdraw what I said, he won't stop crying for a year."
Seconds later, Miche's face turned red for the effort and lost. He stood up mad and scream in impotence, he lost his balance for the dizziness of the alcohol and fell back to the floor. Levi got up the table and look down to him. "That will teach you not to cheat on me." His face wasn't stern like always, there was proud all over. Roger, came up and threw an arm over his shoulders celebrating his victory and other one poured a couple beers over his head. Levi lost his coolness and was about to do something dangerous to the one who soaked him, fortunately Roger stopped him.
