~AN: This story may have a few slight changes from the film but this is just how I imagined it out in my head. I am not going to do a chapter dedicated to a cast because I much prefer to put myself in the main character's shoes. The only person I will cast at the moment unless anyone requests me to cast more people is Ismael Cruz Cordova as Lino who hasn't come into the book yet. This is also my first book, so please be nice, any feedback or constructive criticism will be much appreciated, I hope you enjoy!

Finishing off last touch ups for my new exciting makeup look, I took a glance in the mirror and wondered to myself am I really good enough for this job? I shook off my nerves, tied my hair into a slick ponytail leaving two strands of hair out so I don't look like an egg. I giggled to myself, feeling a bit more confident than I did before. You'll be fine. I kept repeating to myself as a source of reassurance. I picked up my handbag and shoved my essentials in. Okay... I thought to myself. I think I have everything my work, phone, house keys, sunglasses, purse... SHIT! My car keys how could I could I forget them?Time skip>>>
"I'm definitely feeling the silver more than the gold, yeah, mhm" Justin my boss, was talking to one of the models.
"Hey, Justin, sorry to bother you, I was actually looking at some of Vivian's dresses and I drew up some sketches of the perfect makeup look to make it pop, to get that wow you was looking for. You mentioned it in the meeting and I thought I would give it a go, I would love for you to take a look at them." I noticed I was rambling on but Justin is never available and this was probably going to be the only chance I would get to prove my position, so I needed to give it my best shot.
"Listen Gloria, just stay in line like everyone else around here." He bluntly replied.
"Okay... But they're great ideas so if you could just spend like two minutes of your time to just look, I think it would really boost the style up by a lo-"
"Honey, we're not paying you to think." He rudely interrupted.
"But if you could just hear me out-"
"GLORIA! Get back to work!" He barked.
Stay professional Gloria. Stay professional. He isn't worth it.

Applying the same makeup, to the same model day after day was getting tiring I just want to experiment, when I applied for this job I thought wow working with Vivian Chan in a fashion show in Los Angeles will definitely boost my career, give me a good start, a better cv, more experience and I'll be earning money for working with one of the best fashion designers in America, it'll be so fun! Where's the con in that! Oh boy was I wrong about it being fun. I just want to jump out of my comfort zone for once and try new things.
Drowning in my own thoughts, I didn't notice Justin walking past.
"Amazing! Keep it going! Ya see that is what I like to see!" He over-happily exclaimed.
I looked up at him with a very realistic smile, and as I could see him leaving the room I just rolled my eyes in annoyance, mumbling to myself.

Finally my work is done for the day, I picked up my belongings and put my shades on. Being in a building all day with no windows and air conditioning can make you forget that it's still daytime in the real world. It felt good to feel fresh air again instead of deodorant and cologne as an alternative to oxygen.
I hopped into my car, took my leather jacket off and started the car. There was too much traffic, thank god my best friend Suzu decided to pick up the phone.
"Hey girl, hey!" I giddily said.
"OMG hey girlyyy! I was just about to ring you!" Suzu replied.
"What about?"
"So I was thinking about joining The Miss Bala California pageant... and I was wondering if you wanted to do my makeup! I trust you, it'll help you get out of your comfort zone whilst getting you hella promotion."
"OMG! Are you serious?! Of course I want to do it!" I screeched.
"Well get over here! Let's celebrate! Plus Chava misses you!"
" I miss him too! I'm on my way, I won't be too long I just need to cross the border and I'll be there." I excitedly replied.
"Okay! See you soon! Love you!"
"Love you too! Byee!"
And with that I made my way to Mexico, crossing the border from the USA to Mexico my home country...
