First year
Esmeralda was on the stairs in front of an enormous door.
She was with her brother, and another red-haired boy, Harry had made friends with on the train.
Ron Weasley, the brother of the Weasley twins, with whom Esmeralda had shared the cabin on the train.
The group of guys had been left there by a teacher, Professor McGrannit, who had only hinted that they would be sorted into houses, only to leave saying that she would be back in a moment.
"It's true then? What they're saying on the train, Harry Potter and Esmeralda Potter came to Hogwarts" said a platinum blonde haired boy, next to two stouter boys.
He looked like someone who thought he was the best, and to hear him, he seemed to be sure.
"These are Crabbe and Goyle."
The boy introduced the two boys.
"And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy" he said and then walked over to the two and held out his hand.
Ron let out a chuckle that everyone heard. Esmeralda leaned a little to look at the red. Malfoy snapped his head to Ron.
"Think my name is funny do you? No need ti ask yours. Red hair, and a hand-me-down robe, you must be a Weasley" Ron who until recently looked at him as if he were ridiculous, changed expression, now he seemed a little embarrassed.
Draco spoke to the two boys again, but mostly to Harry.
"You will find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You will not want to be friend the wrong people, I can help you" He said and then held out his hand to the two. "I know the wrong people for myself, thanks" said Harry.
Draco was a little taken aback. While Esmeralda shook Draco's hand. Harry turned to glare at her, but she didn't notice.
When the teacher returned, Esmeralda made the way down the corridor next to Draco. After sorting, he seemed to be surprised to see her sitting at the Slytherin table, but then everyone was a bit surprised.
"I'm sure we would be good friends, Potter" he said.
"If you don't bother my brother, and our friends, we will" she said as she continued to eat her cake and stared at the ghost of their house.
Quite bizarre.Second year
"Esmeralda!" Draco yelled as he ran after her.
"Let's be late, come on, come on" she screamed, continuing to run.
The two had remained in the dormitory talking, forgetting that they had joined the Duelist Club, created by Professor Gilderoy Lockhart.
"Hey Esmeralda" shouted two red-haired boys who stood behind a column.
Esmeralda stopped short.
"Hey guys"
"Where are you going?" The two asked in unison.
"At the duel club with Draco" she said pointing to the breathless boy who joined her.
"We wanted to come too, but Lockhart only wants sophomores" George said. Fred shrugged.
"Yeah. We decided to go play a joke, we're headed to his studio, so don't you come with us?"
He asked.
"I'm tempted, but Draco really wants to see my brother, you know" she said sarcastically, the twins laughed knowing how much Draco and Harry couldn't stand each other.
When they left, Esmeralda and Draco started walking again.
"If they call you will you stop but if I call you don't you? Do you like the two redheads so much?" He asked snorting.
"Come on Draco are my best friends, they are like brothers, you know that my heart has room only for you" she said and then gave him a pat on the nose and start running again. She didn't want him to notice how blush she was. After the crush she had on Fred in her first year, Esmeralda had begun to realize she had feelings for Malfoy, but being best friends she didn't want to tell him anything.
He didn't want to ruin anything.
Draco was immobilized by those words, smiled at the thought that something could be born between Esmeralda and him, but he knew that the girl was just joking, so he started running again to reach her and get to the club.
"Wasn't I your best friend?" He asked provoking her.
"You, the twins and Pansy. Did you think you were the only one? Jealous Malfoy?" She continued haughtily.
"No Potter, just a little confused" he said as he opened the door for the girl. And it was true, he was so confused by the whole situation.
He continued to chat with the girl, under the menacing gaze of her brother.
Another good thing about being friends with Esmeralda was that he could annoy Harry without showing it.
Just seeing Draco talking to Esmeralda made Harry mad.
