Y/N POV

Jesus Christ, I can't deal with this loneliness anymore.

I want to talk to someone... be friends with someone.

Someone who will finally make me happy, or at least ease the numbness.

But who? I can't do anything IRL.

I sweep the broken china into the overflowing bin, before walking to my room and taking my phone off charge.

No new notifications... as always.

After a few minutes I decide to download Discord, figuring it'll be a good place to start talking to people without the stress of leaving my apartment.

I type in my email and make an account with the username Y/U/N (your username).

The screen reads: Make a server. Join a server.

I click join a server. To join a server, you need a server link/invite

Great. I guess I could look online?

Thinking 'what's the worst that can happen?', I open up twitch and see who's live.

The first person to come onto my screen is someone called "Ranboolive" with 86k viewers.

Might as well try them.

When I click onto the stream, my screen shows a bunch of gifs and images of cute chibi characters scattered around the edge. Cute, fanart. They have half-black/half-white, one green and one red eye, and a black suit with a red tie.

I look at the message in the middle of the screen: "Stream starting soon" in large Comic Sans letters.

Huh... well... I'm early.

My battered bedside clock says it's around 1:55. So I was crying for 3 hours... At least that's not my worst. The stream probably starts at two. I sit down onto my bed, ignore the still damp pillow, and wait for it to start.

After a couple of minutes, the screen switches to what appears to be the Minecraft main menu, with the logo and some buttons. Trouble is, I've never the game played before.

Once again, Y/N, you are an outcast...

I'm just about to give up when they turn their mic on. I jump slightly as the sound of a male voice comes out of my phone speaker.

It's a nice voice, calming and soft.

"Heyyyyy, chat! So for those of you who follow me on Twitter *cough* @Ranboosaysstuff, you will know that today is a very special day! Today, I have moved into my very own apartment! Camera on in 3... 2... 1..."

It comes as a surprise to me, but when the guy turns on his camera, I feel my face heat.

I can't see his face, as it's covered with a half-black/half-white mask similar to the chibi's, and sunglasses; but all the same, there's something about him.

I don't know what it is about him, but he feels... safe?

"So yeah, pretty dull apartment. I moved here, say three or four hours ago? And I don't have my setup here yet sooooo..." he spins his camera around to show an ancient looking laptop, "Crappy laptop! Seriously, guys, my streamlabs is dying."

I watch him for an hour or so, just listening to the rises and falls of his voice and only half paying attention to the actual gameplay. He goes on about a guy called "Tubbo" stealing his netherite and how he's going to get payback.

Every once in a while, a message pops up on screen:

[username] has donated $[XX]!

And some include a few words that Ranboo occasionally reads out and responds to.

My eyes glance over to the rucksack hanging on my bedroom door.

I keep my cash in there, not very safe- but it's not like I leave it unsupervised often. There's enough for me to give to people to go shopping for me; my neighbour offers sometimes.

Forgetting all about discord, I stare at my phone screen. Warily, I click the "donate button".

It's not like I would spend my money on anything better.

But how much? I put in $100, wanting to be noticed, and cringe as my finger hovers over the "confirm payment" button.

Here goes nothing.

Ranboo POV:

Damnit, Tubbo!

I sit in my uncomfortable folding travel chair staring at my laptop screen. My fingers frantically press the WASD keys as I run around Snowchester looking for my friend.

"Holy cow, chat. If this idiot's gone and used my netherite I'm going to lose it," I say with a smile, even though viewers can't see it through my mask.

I make small head bops as "Touch-tone telephone" starts playing in my headphones, but it's interrupted by the familiar sound (A/N sorry Ranboo that kinda sounds bad) of an enderman as I get a donation.

"Oh! Thank you so much, Y/U/N for the hundred! I remind you of someone you know? Strange."

Strange, indeed.
