"I think I know the murderer," I say to Detective Halcyon when I finally catch up to him.
"Do you know it or do you think it?" He snarled without looking at me.
"Well, I amn't exactly sure. But I have a fair accusation, sir," I paused to look him in the face.
He paused. "Well, go on. Let's hear it."
"I accuse Wendy White, George's wife. And my reason is.... Well, personal experience. I was with her at the party, and she acted like I was an old friend. I mean, someone your husband meets a a party isn't exactly best friends from the beginning. Yet she was acting this way, as if we had known each other for so long-but we hadn't, and I have reason to believe she might be covering something up-a murder, suppose."
Halcyon sighed. "Interesting, but I have a question. What could White possibly get out of the death of Montgomery?"
"Well," I tried to think. "She's a woman of the home. She likes cooking, making the house nice, things of the sort. She could have raided James' kitchen, or gotten some nice furniture. Look, she could have done it for George. It could be.... they needed more money for a stable home? Look, I'm just saying you should think of it."
"I will. But seeing as you are one of the suspects, it isn't official. Not for a while."
