Chapter 11

"Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came" - How to save a Life - The Fray

"Welcome Ladies and Gentleman to Senior Night. Let's welcome our Senior football players, cheerleaders, and band members." The announcer booms.

I scanned the scene in front of me. I was at my last high school home football game. I got a little teary eyed thinking about it. I wish I didn't spend most of my high school career locked up in my room and not coming to these games.

Senior night is what most schools do for every sport. They announce all the seniors that play that sport on the last home game of the season. Pretty emotional night if you ask me.

Kelsey and I stand in the student cheering section with the rest of the student body. We were waiting for our friends' names to be called. It's sorta sad this will be the last time I'll watch Logan, Zach, and Peyton play football. I really have enjoyed watching them play this season.

The announcer starts announcing the few senior cheerleaders. Cara is second to last and when her name is called we cheer loud for her, "Cheer Co-captain is senior Cara Langley!"

"Last but not least, is cheer head captain senior Ashley Miller!" The crowd erupts into a loud cheer.

"Yay. Whoop de do." I said sarcastically.

Kelsey busts out laughing and high fives me.

It's then time for the football players, "Wide Receiver for the Lions is senior Peyton Meyers." I cheer as Peyton walks onto the field with both his parents on either side of him. He has his helmet off but the rest of his uniform on.

"Kicker for the Lions is senior Zach Jenkins." We cheer as Zach walks across the field with his parents and walks beside Peyton.

The announcer calls out a few more senior players and then last is Logan.

While the announcer calls out the guy before Logan, I sneak a peek at him. He standing at the gate with his mom beside him. His helmet is off but I can't see his face since his back is facing me. I know this moment is hard for him, he told me so earlier before the game. He told me he's been dreading tonight since he first game as a Freshmen.

He turns his head slightly and looks up to the student cheering section. He locks eyes with me and I throw him a thumbs up. He smiles and turns back around as the announcer calls his name, "Captain and Quarterback for the Lions is senior Logan Collins!" The crowd jumps up and erupts into cheers. I cheer with the rest of the them.

He walks onto the field with his mom on his arm. I notice he's the only one with only one parent. All the others have both parents on both side of them. Not Logan though, he just has his mom. I figured his dad was not in the picture considering that I've never seen him around and Logan has never talked about him. I've never mentioned it to Logan though because my dad is not around either and I guess I know that's it's not easy to talk about.

The football players and senior cheerleaders exit the field and the game gets ready to begin. Kelsey and I chill and eat our nachos before the game starts.

"What's the plan for after the game tonight?" I asked.

"Probably a party." He shrugs.

I give her a look, "Last time I snuck out to a party after a football game, I got grounded."

She rolls her eyes, "Oh stop being dramatic." She nudges me and takes a bite of her nacho. "Maybe we can have like a girls night at Cara's place or something."
