"Kate, hide

"Kate, hide. Now," Kate's father commanded. A young Kate ran to the closet and pulled open the hatch on the floor, doing as her father told. She forced back tears as she sat on the floor, scared to lose her father as she already did her mother. She heard the struggle between her father and the demon, but she stayed put. She had seen the demon before, and she was doing whatever she could to not have to encounter it again. She could picture those black eyes.

Those eyes were about the only thing that she remembered, but they haunted her every night. There was a loud crash and her father let out a shrill scream. One that sounded just like her mother's scream the night she died. Everything became quiet. She knew her father was dead. The only thing she could hear was the faint cracks of the boards as the demon walked closer to her bedroom.

They started to call her name. She closed her eyes and made sure to keep her breathing calm. She needed to stay alive so she could eventually hunt down the beast that had now killed both of her parents. As the demon stepped into her bedroom, the front door was kicked in and the demon disappeared out of nowhere. A man called her name, but she was too scared to move.

"Kate! You're safe! We won't hurt you!" She knew she could trust the voice. It was calm and soothing like they could protect her from all evil. She slowly stood up and crawled into her closet as the man walked into her room. She opened the door slowly and the man looked at her. "Hi, Kate. I know you're scared, but you're safe. My name is John. John Winchester. A friend of your father's." Kate nodded and John came over and kneeled next to her.

"Everything will be okay. Can I hug you?" She nodded and fell into his arms. She wanted those arms to be her father's, but he was gone. As she pulled away, she walked into the living room before John could stop her and saw her father. His eyes were wide open and lifeless. He was lying in a pool of his own blood as it seeped out of his chest and mouth. She screamed and tried to run over to him, but John held her back. "

Daddy! Daddy, wake up, please!" John picked her up and held her tight as he looked at the body of his old friend.

Kate woke up in a cold sweat and breathing hard. She often had nightmares of her father's death, and each time she wished she would have done something to save him. She slowly got out of bed and opened her bedroom door. She wiped her eyes as she went over to Sam's door and slowly opened it.

"Sam," she whispered. Sam woke up quickly. He was used to her coming into his room after nightmares so it had been easy for him to wake up. He gave her a small smile and peeled back the blanket on one side of the bed. She smiled weakly and got in bed next to him.

"Are you alright," Sam asked her quietly. She nodded, not wanting to talk about it. Sam knew almost every detail anyway so he didn't press for information. He wrapped his arm around her waist and she laid close to his chest. Sam kissed her head, but she was hesitant to fall back asleep. "It's alright. I'm right here. Just try to get some sleep, alright?"

She reluctantly nodded and closed her eyes. Sam stroked her head until she was finally able to fall into a peaceful sleep. She was glad to have Sam. She never had a nightmare when she slept next to him. That was how it always was since her father died. She went to live with the Winchester's since John was her godfather and Sam had caught her having a nightmare one night. He had offered her to stay with him every time she had one.

He always protected her from everything. Whether it be a demon or her own head, he was always there. She had begun to fall for him over the years, but she never said anything because she was content with the way things were.

She just needed him, no matter the circumstance.
