You wiped the tears from your face as you walked into your apartment. You set your keys down, took your shoes off, and hung up your jacket. You laid your bag on the couch and sat down next to it. As your body hit the couch so did your ability to keep it together. You pressed the palms into your eyes as you began to sob.
You felt the weight of the world on your shoulders as you cried. You spent the whole drive home trying to process how you went from feeling on top of the world to feeling crushed under the weight. You knew better then to say yes to the amount of things you do, but you can't handle the idea of letting people down.
This week alone you were waking up before the sun rose and falling asleep into the AMs. You were going, going, going. Barley having time to eat, barely any time to sleep, barley any time to see your husband. You shouldn't be upset though, you were helping people and you weren't letting people down.
The day started off fine, up before the sun and definitely up before your husband. It was going fine until you realized you double booked yourself, which meant you were letting someone down. You couldn't handle it, the thought of letting someone down. You pushed through, you got done what you needed to get done that day. As you drove home around 10pm from helping a friend, you felt the weight. You slowed down and because of that you felt the weight.
So there you were sitting on the couch trying to pretend that you weren't drowning. You pressed the heels of your palms harder and harder trying to make yourself disappear. Trying to disappear from the feeling of letting someone down. You continued to sob until you heard a noise.
You looked up to see your husband, in his typical plaid pajamas pants. The ones you bought him for Christmas a year ago.
"Oh, love- im sorry" you woke your tears " i'll be in for bed soon i'm sorry" taking a deep breath. You watch as Olivers heart breaks in front of you. The idea that instead of coming to you you are apologizing that you are simply existing.
You put your hand back in your hands, crying harder. You felt it, you let him down as well. You feel movements as Oliver walks over to where you were sitting. He sat down next to you. He didn't say anything, he just sat there.
"Sweetheart" he spoke quietly, barely above a whisper breaking the silence between the two of you. Your sobbing had ceased, you were now just feeling the quiet tears down your face and you breathing in and out in a choppy-like manner.
"You can't keep doing this'' keeping his tone steady and quiet. Desperate for you to talk to him for him to help you. He always promised you he would protect you from all the harm of the world but he can't protect you from yourself, from your brain.
You slowly moved your hands from your face and sat up gently. You bring your knees up to your chest and wrap your arms around them, letting you back hit the back of the couch. You turned to look at him and he smiled softly at you. He moved his hand gently to wipe the last of your tears.
"Let me hold you. Please" you move as you heard him speak, moving your head to rest against his chest. Allowing him to move his arms to wrap around you.
"I let them down" you mumble into his chest trying not to cry again, you doubt you have any more tears left to cry.
"What happened"
"I double booked myself so then I ended up not being able to help a friend with her meal prep because I already said yes to helping a friend move." Voice breaking, your throat in pain from crying.
