~Newt's pov~
It's been a week now since Y/N has gotten back in the maze with Thomas. I could tell their complicity was flourishing and that they were becoming good friends. Surprisingly, it didn't make me jealous. Even though she was close with him, she still gave me a lot of attention. It felt nice. And I was happy that Thomas was feeling comfortable around us.

In the past week, Minho has been healing. He would be ready to go back in the maze the next day while Thomas would step down to go work in the Gardens with me again. Thomas wasn't too excited about it; he had found some liking to running the maze. But it is what it is... The weather was also getting worse every day. Some mornings, the temperature could go up to 30 degrees Celsius. At the end of the afternoon it would often reach near the 40's, sometimes even more! This weather was extremely dangerous for the Gladers since we're all working outside all day long. It was even tougher on the runners; after their shifts I could tell Y/N and Thomas were more exhausted than all of us.

I've been noticing Y/N has been eating less and drinking practically almost no water. I didn't say anything yet because I didn't want to seem annoying but I made up my mind to talk to her after her day shift. The last thing I wanted was her to weaken her condition.

Since the weather was so warm a lot of Gladers were dehydrated and were fainting often. The medjacks were extremely busy, trying to get everyone better. A lot needed rest and some cool air. Unfortunately those two things weren't available in the Glade; everybody needs to work and do their part. We can't afford to have half our guys resting. It was difficult but most of us were able to manage. I personally never fainted or felt extremely tired. I would drink enough water and was lucky enough to have a little bit of shade where I worked.

~Y/N pov~
"Alright." I said while letting out a sigh. "Time to head back."

Thomas visibly didn't want to go back in the Glade; that would signify that his days being a runner were officially over. But we had to make our way back; the doors were still a little uncontrolled. We weren't exactly sure how long they would stay open for.

"Yeah I know. I just don't feel like going back in the Gardens. After doing this for a week, you can't just put me back you know. I want to talk to Alby..."

Thomas kept talking but his voice was echoing to me. Something else was preoccupying me. I was feeling hot; extremely hot. My legs started to weaken which made me kneel down. When my body did so I couldn't help but feel dizzy. I grabbed my head between my hands and tried to shake the feeling off... But it wouldn't go. My vision got blurry and I could hear Thomas' muffed voice;

"Y/N? Hey, Y/N! You okay there?"

I couldn't answer him. I looked up at the heavy sun and felt my heart racing in my chest. The next thing I know I was unconscious, collapsed on the ground.

~Narrator's pov~
Thomas just had witnessed Y/N faint. He's seen it plenty of times recently in the Glade. His first reflex was to get down next to her. He grabbed her wrist to feel her pulse; she was breathing. Good. Then he gently took her face and shook it a little bit.

"C'mon Y/N! Wake up! I'm here! Wake up please!"

She opened her eyes slowly and weakly. She opened her mouth as well but no sound came out of it. He could tell she was dehydrated and had so little strength left in her. He knew she couldn't walk out of the maze in that condition. Next thing he knew, Thomas picked her up; one hand grabbed her back while the other was placed just under her thighs. Her head was arching back and her arms were deadly hanging out from his grip. Y/N wasn't heavy at all to him which made the run back in the Glade easy.
