After ten more minutes of driving, I finally felt the car come to a stop. I looked out of Three's window and saw that we were stopped in front of a yellow house that was covered in dust, grime, and the paint was faded. There were remains of what I guessed to be bushed along the outside walls of the house but their leaves and color were lost. Once I saw Three getting out of the van, I tried to do the same, but once I reached for the car handle to open the door I felt a sting of pain shoot through my arm.
"Ahh shit," I muttered. I took a deep breath before I tried again. Before my fingers could touch the handle for a second time, the door opened from the outside with Three standing on the other side of it. What a gentleman.
"Thanks," I mumbled, lacking my normal tone of politeness for more than obvious reasons. I carefully slid out of the van and kicked the door closed, turning to follow Three, but I paused in the middle of the road for a minute watching Three struggle with the keys. He's completely distracted. If I sprinted now, I could make it to one of the next-door houses and lock him out. That could buy me some time.
I looked around until I found a semi-trashed white house next to it. That's not too far away. I can make it. I looked back at Three. Alright, here goes.
I took a deep breath and took off, sprinting around the hedges. I could hear Three shouting at me, but I didn't look back. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit. I could hear him gaining on me as the footsteps behind me were getting louder. Run faster, you idiot! I bolted across the sidewalk to the next-door house, but my pace wasn't as fast as it normally was. I had lost too much blood. At the sight of the door a few feet in front of me, I silently cheered. I made it! I just have to-
I was cut off when a hand wrapped around my waist and a sharp tug pulled me back. Aw crap. Losing my footing, my back hit the concrete. OW! I squeezed my eyes closed and cried out in pain as sharp tingles ran through my body. Before I could scramble away, I felt a knee on my hip, locking it in place and my hands being pinned down my side so I couldn't move. When I opened my eyes I saw Three on top of me.
"Really?" he panted sarcastically with that cocky smirk across his face. "Nice try, princess."
I glared at him which only made his smirk grow as he pulled me off of the ground. He kept his hand tightly around my waist, probably to make sure that I didn't try to run away again. Dammit. I was so close. Literally feet away.
Three kept his hand around me until we got back to the same yellow house, despite my constant nagging about how he was squeezing so tightly that I would explode. He responded with, well that sucks for you then.
He pushed open the door with his foot to reveal the quant interior of the yellow house. When he finally let me go so that he could lock the door, I stepped inside. I turned back around when I heard him still locking. What the hell? Why are there so many? The door was practically covered in locks.
"What is this place?" I asked as I continued to look around. There were hardly any windows, the only ones there being small pockets of natural light. On one side of the room was a small table with a couple of chairs and a bathroom. On the other side of the room, there was a small kitchen and a door probably leading to a bedroom. Wow. This totally isn't sketchy.
"It's a safe house. We're gonna stay here until I know it's safe for us to leave," Three said, turning the lights on. I stood awkwardly in the middle of the room as Three continued to busy himself. He walked into a room and came back out with a small duffel bag, dropping it on the table.
"Everything you'll need is in that bag. There's a shower over there," he said, pointing towards the door to the bathroom. I hesitated for a moment and looked back at him. He rolled his eyes and motioned for her to hurry up so I grabbed the bag and opened it. Clothes, bathroom stuff, and shoes.
