So the protagonist is the main character of the story. They are depicted as the hero and have likable traits: Heres some

Caring

Loyal

Kind

Intelligent

Basically, traits that you would want as a person. To write good protagonists, you need a character that's not only likable to read but likable to the other characters.

If a character is supposed to have admiring traits but is seen as rude and vindictive to other characters, then they are not a protagonist. 

So now that we have that all cleared up, let's clear up antagonists.
