A/n: Requested by jojobeavers. AU where Doppio is a troubled teen and Risotto is his caregiver. Enjoy!
--
“Sorry you had to come all this way!” you say softly whilst standing next to your childhood friend, Risotto.
The tall man sighed deeply, glancing at Doppio, who's eyes stared aimlessly towards the ground, looking both angry and ashamed.
He contorts his bandaid-covered face into a grimace, but also shy look. His face had a few bruises and the left sleeve of his magenta sweater was ripped and hanging off his arm that Risotto briefly wondered if the kid was on the losing end of the fight.
To recap, He'd had recently received a call from the school and had been told that Doppio had been in a fight with another student, and was suspended for 4 days.
“It’s fine, you must be sick and tried of seeing my face.” Risotto tells you, folding his arms over his broad chest.
You glanced up at Risotto and gave him a lighthearted smile, "That's not true. Though, if it were, I would've left town years ago." You say.
"But seriously, if you're having trouble with him, I'm always willing to help you." You added.
"Thank you, (Y/n). That means a lot coming from you!" He says making you a small smile.
Of all the years you'd known him, Risotto never had an emotional connection with anyone. Though you'd never expected him to take in a runaway sixteen year old, but as time has gone by, you learned that he was quite an exceptional caregiver.
"Welcome, if you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call!" You say causing a slight blush to cross Risotto's face.
--
Risotto was far different than his previous caretaker, that Doppio often admired how the man was always so patient with him.
"It wasn't my fault! I-I didn't do anything wrong! All I did was defend myself." The pink haired boy says as the tall man took a seat next to him on the park bench.
Risotto looked in his eyes to observe for any signs of misleading trust and care, but found none.
"And yet, you still got yourself suspended from school." He scolded.
Doppio couldn't help but bite his lower lip. It should've been that other kid who needed to be suspended, not him!
"You must hate me." The pink haired boy murmured, casting his gaze downwards.
"Would you be taking me back to the orphanage?"
"Don't be stupid! You're not going back. And I don't hate you." Risotto says.
He knew Doppio was a good kid. The boy worked hard to make good grades just to make him proud and Risotto worked hard to make sure he lived a good life. Thus, everyday after he spend time with the kid, there were always the happy moments he'd cherished.
He loved Doppio like a father would to a son.
Like family.
Risotto even remembers the first time Doppio accidentally called him dad. Although, the boy immediately apologized profusely, but to say Risotto wasn't ecstatic would be an understatement.
Doppio never really had anyone to care for him. He had even been abandoned by his last caregiver. (Guess who?)
Risotto soon gave a small sigh before he spotted a nearby ice cream truck in a distance.
"Look, how about I buy you an ice cream." He suggested.
The mention of something sweet seemed to lighten Doppio's mood as the boy slowly smiled and nodded.
--
It wasn't long until the two of them were walking through the park, enjoying their ice cream treats.
"T-thank you, Risotto! I'm feeling a lot better now." Doppio says, taking another spoonful of his ambrosia, which was chopped full of cherries, pineapple, and oranges.
Risotto, himself, was enjoying a classic vanilla ice cream cone as he placed a gentle hand onto the pink haired boy's head.
"Don't mention it. Just think of it as an reward for at least sticking up for yourself."
"Hee hee, perhaps I should get suspended more often!" The pink haired boy teased.
"Don't push it!" Risotto scold, causing Doppio to beam bashfully.
Yeah, Risotto was definitely the best dad.
"Also, are you and Miss (Y/n) like, in love or something?"
"What makes you say that? We're just friends!" Risotto shuddered.
"I was just asking. I mean even if you two were, I wouldn't mind! Also, I think Miss (Y/n) would make a great mom." Doppio says.
Risotto couldn't stop the blush from tinting his cheeks.
