James Dean was born in Marion, Indiana in February 1931. When He was just a young child, his father moved the entire family to Santa Monica, California. Jimmy was an only child, and grew incredibly close to his mother through the years—but sadly, tragedy was lurking just around the corner.
James Dean's mother passed after a short battle with cervical cancer when He was just nine years old. The young boy was devastated, but his nightmare wasn't over yet. His father couldn't handle the pressure of raising Jimmy on his own, and sent him back to Indiana to live with an aunt and uncle. His mother's passing deeply affected him. One day at school when he was in the fourth grade he burst into tears, saying that he missed her.
His mother's death was something that he never got over.
